What size hole to cut for 4" icecap fan

Not familiar with the Ice Cap fans but FWIW my 3" fans are mounted over 2.5" holes leaving me space to screw the fan to the canopy. Later, Paul

    Calcium - Alkalinity - pH

hmmmmm well in my opinion (admittedly worth very little) when I pose a question to the forum I appreciate the "why" of the answer as much as the answer itself. I enjoy broomer's "rants", haven't read one yet that didn't *learn* me something. I agree, there are some posts that only warrant a...

why dose it say Peppermint Shrimp.....

actually, the designation of shark is the one exception to the rule FireEater, that's an appointed designation made by the board administrators based on demonstrated knowledge by the person, not post counts. Yes magic, sharks are good people, they don't pretend to always be right but they swear...

Best way to design overflow & return

stacy, just one more thing and I'll shut up ... before you have the tank drilled make sure you have the bulkhead in your hand so you know the exact size to drill, sounds silly but trust me, bulkheads vary dramatically from brand-to-brand. Some bulkheads have such a narrow lip around the fitting...

Best way to design overflow & return

VERY GOOD POINT Salty! I have checkvalves on my lines and didn't even think to mention it <dummy here> the check valves have handled everything fine when I've done my test runs but of course, when it happens for real, I'll be out of town and the check valves will fail LOL Later, Paul

Best way to design overflow & return

sorry, just reread your post and noticed we were talking about a 240 tank I'd also have the other overflow drilled for a 1.5 inch or even 2 inch bulkhead, this will assure your ability to turn the tank 8-10 times per hour. Again, a lot of this depends on what you're going to be keeping in your...

Best way to design overflow & return

actually my best guess would be to put the returns towards the bottom of the tank. My logic here is that if your overflows are pulling water from the top of the tank, then it would only make sense that the return water come in towards the bottom to improve circulation in the tank. Just my .02...

    The day it rained saltwater.

wamp, the bulkheads on Novice's tank are thru wood coated with fiberglass and I *think* epoxy paint. They are *very* thick! Later, Paul

    The day it rained saltwater.

Hey Novice aren't you glad you had all those empty salt buckets laying around LOL? Did you find any larger gaskets for the bulkheads? By the way, I just got my latest batch of bulkheads last night (5 x 1.5") and lo-and-behold they are still larger than the "good ones" that aquatic eco sells, but...

    Brass on RO unit

Thanks guys! I suspected this might be the concensus here. The good news is that the tank is still in the construction phase so there aren't any critters in jeopardy because of this, the bad news is I'm still not able to find the tee fitting for the storage tank. I'm sure I'll be able to...

    Brass on RO unit

LOL Nolo, okay it's a deal! But Nolo, you misunderstand, the brass fittings are *after* the RO unit, one brass tee fitting going into the holding tank (stainless steel) and one from the output line to the faucet. I think I'm going on a search for replacement fittings made of nylon *sigh* just...

    Brass on RO unit

Hello all, quick opinions needed here. I just installed my RO unit in my tank stand and am a little concerned that the supplied fittings from the unit are brass. Since the lines will only carry RO water, no saltwater exposure, I'm not scared to death but I am wondering if anyone has any...

    stilts for powercompacts?

although I'm not sure PC's should run hot enough to crack glass, it's certainly possible. If it were me, I'd go to my local ACE hardware and pick up 6 or 8 nylon spacers about 1.5-2 inches long. These things look like very thick soda straws and you can put a bolt thru them to hold the fixture...

How can I keep the floor dry?

Do you own or rent? Seems like a silly question but if you own the place I'd cut a rectangle chunk of carpet out (where the mildew etc lurks) put down a cement backer board and tile an area about 2-3 feet larger then the stand using a nice tile that goes with your existing carpet. If you want to...

    Heater Questions.

yeah, the general rule of thumb is 3 watts per gallon and the other thing is that you should probably go with multiple heaters of a lower wattage. This protects you a little bit if one gets stuck on or breaks. Just my .02, Paul

    sandbeds

I've heard some good things about "Quikcrete" playsand and I think it's available nationwide at Home Depot. The silica debate continues of course, but I must say, using the argument that "glass contains silica" is comparing apples to oranges IMO, it was brought up in a thread where somebody was...
