fish only converting to live rock

If you buy the rock locally and it is cured you can add it directly to the tank with fish. If you buy uncured or from an online retailer (it will arrive uncured) you will need to put the rock into a large container (new trashcans work great) with a powerhead, heater and saltwater. It will cure...

    Adding LS question...

If you are literally adding water for the first time you can mix the salt and water directly in the tank. I've heard other add a small amount of water (a few inches) and then their sand. Put a plate on top of your sand so that as your pour the rest of the water in the plate will keep the sand...

Water Change - When to do

Don't do a change until the tank has cycled or you will increase the cycling time. I did a 20% change after my cycle was complete, waited 48 hours, then retested my water. At that point you can slowly start adding some cleaners.

    Reducing water movement

Can you adjust the flow on the MJ 900? I'd suggest a lower flow before turning it off.

Sea horses...I've heard they are easier now?

There is a good thread that will tell you a lot about them in the "fish" forum. Try doing a search there. My LFS keeps "pipefish" with their seahorses.

    Can you drill live rock?

Make sure you get a glue that his approved for use in marine tanks. Two other options I've heard people using are zip-ties (the plastic latching straps mentioned) and drilling holes, then connecting with plastic dowel rods. Good luck and drill slowly! :D

pics of my 6 day old tank

Scorphntr - How new are you to Arizona? I doubt you'll find much in the way of an LFS in Queen Creek, but About The Reef in Tempe is great should you need to find a good shop. I think I've been to all of them in the Phoenix area and their store always looks great, plus the employees are...

    ophiura . . . help!

My cc star was in the top left corner of my tank (55) today. Its a nice spot between a powerhead and skimmer where the puffer (Hawaiian spotted) won't bother him. I went to feed him and noticed a white sort of spot or patch near his body, but on one of his arms. I just tested tonight: 80...

    What am I doing wrong?

I have a 10 that isn't in use. I realize eventually he'd get too big, but for now would he be ok? He is about 4-5" across if he is spread out (tip to tip).

    What am I doing wrong?

ophiura, I'm not sure if you realized it, but bjgwilliam brought up a thread that hadn't been posted to for over a month. Hopefully, IrishPenny's issues are resolved by now. That being said, your posting has a lot of great information/suggestions and should still help a lot of people. :D Also...

    new 55g is up

Gotcha! Its nice that you have a larger tank to move them to so you can enjoy the tangs while they are smaller, but give them a good home later. :D I'd also reconsider getting 3 clowns. They will probably fight and you'll end up with only a pair. As for the mandarin . . . I'd make sure you...
