Sorry. I thought you were talking about lighting for the 55. That should be enough as far as light, but keep in mind that the light won't reach the bottom of a "tall" as easily as it would a standard 20. That being said, you will probably have closer to the equivalent of 3-4 watts/gallon.

tons of coral that would take to long to say
yellow polyps
Are you serious about putting these into a 55?
You don't necessarily need a protein skimmer, but it will help to keep your tank clean.
What do you plan to keep in the tank.
Do not add anything until your tank has fully cycled, which typically takes around 4 weeks.
I got the new lights for my 55 today!! :D
2x65W 10,000k PCs
2x65W blue actinic
4x3/4W lunar
What do you think? Check out the purple corraline on the left in the "after" photo compared to the "before" photo.
Here is before:

AquaC Remora is hands down the best for that size tank. I love mine!

Ok, MH sounds the way to go, what's the cheapest way to get set up?
Funny you should say that. Have you looked into the prices of MH yet? I'd suggest shopping around various online retailers and see what you can come up with, but it certainly won't be cheap.

IThe funny thing is you will never get 10 people to agree on anything.
True, but you can find out why each of the 10 people recommend thier method, then make an informed decision. Don't get discouraged, just be patient.
No. Read up on them a little. You could always get lucky and get one that is non-aggressive, but chances are they will make a nice meal out of any inverts they can get their mouth on.

If your tank hasnt cycled I wouldnt have anything other than live rock and live sand in that tank.
Agreed, except that you can use a raw shrimp from the grocery to help expedite the cycle.
Sorry, in my post I assumed you meant after the tank cycled.
You are probably going to have to replace the light hood before you can keep most corals. I could be wrong, but I haven't heard of a VHO that fits into a 48" flourescent fitting. Also, PC bulbs are smaller and have prongs that almost plug in (again, a different hood).
As for the corraline...

Whats the deal with the SeaClone 100? I have seen negative remarks concerning it but no real specifics on what the bad issues are with it.
In about 10 days mine skimmed nothing. In the first 12 hours my AquaC Remora had already started to skim properly. I...
This is off the subject, but you've got a panther grouper in a 55? You do realize they get too big for that tank, right?
Next time you are at your LFS see if they will give you a few extra shells (especially if you are buying something). If not, they'll probably sell you some pretty cheap.
