    Crushed Coral VS Live Sand

Its hard to answer that without knowing what you'd like to keep. If money is no object, definitely MH! If you don't plan to keep hard corals or clams, PCs should be ok. I'd do some research, find out what you like, then post those specific things in a new thread. :D

    i know this is stupid

I know this is a stupid question, but better safe than sorry. I recently upgraded my lights and am ready for my first coral(s) to be added. Is there a certain rule to stocking corals, meaning after adding one do I have to wait a certain amount of time before adding another? I assume the answer...

    Nitrates to high

Fish aren't as sensitive to nitrates as corals. The "safe" range is probably up to 50 with fish only. The "safe" range with corals is probably 20, but as close to 0 as possible is ideal.

    lighting

bolt696 - That is the setup I just got, except that as arkey mentioned I also have 4 lunar lights with their own power and switch. Here is another link that shows before and after shots of my tank. I went from a 40 watt NO to the hood you mentioned...

    test kits, what ones

jesatfis - I use the Aquarium Pharmaceticals (sp?) and haven't had an issue. Sometimes the color is between 2 shades, but as long as I know it is in an acceptable range I don't worry about it. I think to do reef you'd also want to test calcium and alkalinity. If I understand it correctlly...

    my new lights are here!!!

Thanks to everyone else for the positive comments! Tim - Just make sure the actinic are a true blue. One company, Jebo I believe (but could be wrong), advertises blue lights that are actually just a bulb painted blue. I've heard of others purchasing that hood, then replacing the fake actinics...

Unfortunately, that is only enough for fish and inverts.

    ophiura . . . help!

I know! I put up water parameters, everything about the tank and even pictures under 2 different lighting! Maybe she has a life outside of swf.com! :scared:

    Water quality okay?

It all looks good. I don't test for cal, alk or KH yet since I have FOWLR. You'll be fine with those numbers to add some cleaners. Congrats on being patient and waiting for the end of the cycle. :D

    my new lights are here!!!

Thanks BlemmyGuy, scooby, and Tim. Tim - previously (the light in the first pic) I was just running a NO (normal output) flourescent light. It was 40 watts I believe. The first post lists the specifics of the first light strip and it is made by CoraLife. As far as livestock, I should be able...

fish only converting to live rock

If you do want to go canister, keep in mind that you want one that is easily accessed for rinsing the mechanical filtration. I have a Fluval that I've been happy with, but I'm sure there are several good ones to choose from.

fish only converting to live rock

You don't need to have a uv sterilizer. If you start having algae problems, it might not be a bad idea. I'd say a majority of people don't have one though. Before knowing what filter might be best, what fish do you have and are you planning to get any more? Do you ever plan to covert to reef...

    need help with skimmer

Never heard of reef devil. You just need a powerhead? Is that what you mean by pump? I like AquaClear and Maxijet (thats what I have on my skimmer).
