    HELP!!!

It could have been ick in his gills. Especially if the CB was breathing really hard and the cleaner shrimp was all in his gills. Ick can infest the gills and suffocate the fish with no visible appearance on the outside of the fish. Sorry to hear it didn't make it. CB's are cool fish.

    I do water changes...

I change out about 15-20g in my reef and about 5 in my FO. I only have 27g actual water in it, no sump like the reef. Usually works out to be about a month or two in between changes.

flame hawk with anemone and coral banded

Some hawkfish will actually use an anemone as a host, like a clown fish. So that is o.k. As for the coral banded, it is hit and miss whether it will try to eat it or leave it alone.

    IM ALL MAD

I have regular playsand in my FO tank and have no problems with it. There are a few on the board who use the quickcrete. It is a quartz based sand. Contrary to popular belief, silicate sand doesn't cause algae, water problems do. There are many articles on this subject. Try a search engine...

    skimmer death

I agree with Xenia. When you added to the total volume of your system you changed the amount of water the gunk is suspended in. When there is more gunk built up, the skimmer will begin to pull it out. Mine doesn't pull anything out for a few days after a good water change. It just foams...

    emerald crabs

I have 4 emeralds in my reef. I did catch one of them picking at my galaxea once. I just moved the coral, no further problems. They decimated my bubble algae. I don't see it anywhere. A lawn mower blenny may help with algae on the sand. As previously mentioned I would also get a sand...

    leather coral

C&H, Try to set it on the lr where you want it to be. Put the coral on it's side or at an angle so the coral will let go of the rubble and grab onto the lr. It may take a while for it to let go and then grab on where you want it to, I'm still working with one of my toadstools to get him to...

    Good News

Today while eating dinner, I saw my bubble tip looked kinda funny. He was really stretched out along the rock work, and looked kinda funny. I looked a bit closer and saw there was a very large disc area and no foot under the whole thing. It split! Now I have two! I had noticed it had not...

    elegant coral

There are varying opinions on elegance corals. I have one and have it under pc lights high in my tank and in a medium flow area. I've had it a year and it has doubled in size. I feed Dt's phyto and direct feed mine silversides about once a week. Also, I soak all my foods in zoe. Good luck...

    DSB! DSB! DSB!

Right on Diatom! I am so tired of all the "buffering" debates and so forth with aragonite sand. It can't help, the ph is too high in the reef tank for the sand to dislove. If that was the case why would anyone ever buy a Ca reactor or add calcium? There are TONS of articles out there on...

    another ? about LR

I would say go ahead and get a skimmer. They can't hurt, and most definately help removing waste from the water. It will make life a lot easier on you and your tank inhabitants.

    Bakpak

I have a cpr backpack on my FO tank. It works well. The biofiltration is the plastic ribbon in the return section of the unit. Bacteria latches on to the ribbon and grows there, creating the bio-filtration. They also make a reef ready skimmer, the backback 2R. This has no ribbon in it, and...

    anyone have zoanthids?

Most corals are in some form or another a filter feeder. They get much of their food and nutrients by inflating and deflating with water, what's in the water goes in the coral. Generally, adding Phyto can't hurt, there are a lot of critters you can't even see that will feed on the phyto...

    anyone have zoanthids?

I've had a big colony for about a year. I have them under pc lighting near the bottom. I don't do anything special for them like direct feed or anything. I feed DT's and Marine Snow. They will grow and multiply rapidly in the right conditions. They're really colorful too. I have green...
