    GFCI Tripping????

GFCI don't generally pop because of too much wattage, that is what your circuit breaker does. They pop because you have a ground fault. Try just the two heaters and if it pops one of your heaters is leaking current. Either way I would recommend splitting. 1800 watts at times could pull almost...

    Hi Nitrate Problem

First step, read this: https://www.saltwaterfish.com/vb/showthread.php?t=257319 and convince your self to get an RO unit. With RO you will end up getting your maintenence down to 10% water changes at a time and the savings in salt will pay for the RO unit quickly. Buy a unit right now! What is...

    Tap Water?

Please don't use tap water in your tanks. Over time you will create a very polluted system that is not fair to all the animals in your tank and will cost you more in the long run as you try other "quick fixes" to stop algea problems, etc. This is an expensive hobby, and to be honest a pretty...

    Pink Montipora turning white

I just want to add something in case someone that just aquires a monti cap reads this and starts to freak out. This is different then what is wrong with the original posters coral. It is a good thing for the edges to be white on a monti. It grows by creating a white skeleton on the edge and...

    New Tank Cyano?

I change out 10% weekly with RO water. When doing that I siphon the cyano out as much as possible. I don't think I have a nutrient problem because I have almost zero algea. If anything I am worried about not having enough.

    New Tank Cyano?

I use a refractometer and recalibrated so I think my SG is fine. It is definitely cyano, long, stringy, and red. I plan to wait at least another week to see if it gets better before considering chemicals. Just wondering how long these blooms seem to take to naturally go away.

    New Tank Cyano?

I've had my tank up for about 5 months and am starting to have a good size cyano problem. Many things I have seen say this is a normal part of a new tank but I'm not totally sure. My levels just tested are: ph: 8.4 salinity 35 Amonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 0 Calcium 420 Alk 3.0 meq/l Phospate 0 I...

    Plumbing Help

I didn't mean to say you have to put 600 gph through your sump. I just meant you should plumb with 1" -more as a just in case measure. The amount of flow you put through your sump is totally dependent on how much your sump can handle and how that fits into your overall design.

    Plumbing Help

If you don't want to drill get a hang on back overflow such as a lifereef. Also you should plumb your drains with 1 inch at least. 1 inch will drain up to about 600 gph. Much less risk to a clogged drain and would allow you to up the flow a bit if you want some more flow. Size your return to...

    TDS meter

I like the in-line TDS meter you can buy. It is pretty cheap, easy to install, and lets you spot check both your tap water into the RO unit and the water out of the RO unit. Since it is always on I just spot check it without any effort and don't have to worry about the cleanliness of the...

    Calibrating Refractometer?

No, Reverse Osmosis or Distilled water only. Bottled water would inaccurately calibrate.

    Tank Crashed!!!

Did you transfer all your liverock from the old tank to the new? If so you won't see a cycle as long as you got all or most of the dead organisms out of your rock and water. Your liverock will have plenty of bacteria already on it to handle your bioload.

Overflow drain position, (will this be o.k.)?

put the drain hole at whatever height you want to be your water level. After drilling test it. If you are not happy with the level you can always use that one for the return and drill the drain again.

Overflow drain position, (will this be o.k.)?

is there a reason you don't want to drill the back of the tank instead or is it because you want to be able to hide the intake with aquascaping.

Overflow drain position, (will this be o.k.)?

That wont work, the drain would just empty the tank of water. the drain needs to be at the height you want to be the top of your water level.

How long can fish be in the bag?

This site uses fedex to ship. Also, they will do saturday delivery's for about $10 extra, it is an option when you check out. I like to do a Saturday delivery and have the package held at the FedEx location (another option during checkout but you will need the address of your local fedex...

    Seaclone 100

You never realize how bad the seaclone is until you see what happens with another skimmer. I made a DIY recirculating skimmer out of PVC for about $30 in parts, and used a MJ1200 (same as seaclone uses) for the recirculating pump. I wanted to see what would happen so I left the seaclone on the...
