    custom sump

I did exactly that due to a center brace in my stand. I drilled each 10 gallon and put in bulkhead fittings. I then cut a hole in the center brace and connected both tanks together using PVC. It has been working very well.

Is this Skimmer good for anything?!

I had the very same filter. I changed over to a sump/refugium system and added a Euro Reef skimmer. NO comparison between the sea clear skimmer and euro reef. No harm in running it until you upgrade however.

    Quick Ich Quesiton

Freshwater ich is different. No chance of transferring it.

    Seaweed?

Probably a macroalgae of some sort. Actually healthy for your tank. You can remove it if you don't like it's looks but I would leave it if it doesn't get to intrusive.

    angel wings

Thats coquina all right. I think the problem may be that they live in the intertidal zone. Let us know how they work out!

    angel wings

I think what you are refering to are coquina. Are they small, about 3/4 inch long? I have never tried them-I live in Flagler Beach FL and there are loads of them at the beach at the end of my street. I have heard them discussed here or another forum a few times and opinions were they may not...

    venemous moray eels?

I was bitten by a green moray (entirely my fault as I did not initially see it) while diving off Gun Cay in the Bahamas. It was a pretty nasty bite. I had to take my boat to Bimini for treatment. Doctor was in Nassau that day but the nurse did a beautiful job stitching it up. (14 stitches) No...

    acclimating fish from the ocean

I grew up in Miami and have kept saltwater tanks for years. I collected many of my own fish while living in Miami. With just normal good sense acclimation you won't have any problems at all. In fact I think the less stops and acclimations for the fish the better. I was also an offshore charter...

    Live Sand???

Good live sand comes from reef fringing areas or at least well offshore in TROPICAL waters. The biodiversity that makes the sand so desirable is just not found in commom beach sand. I live only 3 blocks from the ocean in north Florida. To get my sand I drove to Tampa Bay Saltwater because the...

    live rock

Tampa Bay Saltwater has gulf aquacultured rock that is full of all sorts of life. It is a little denser and heavier than Pacific so you need to use a little more but it is excellent looking rock. They are open for walkins on Saturday.

    Flame scallop in bad shape???

I've had the luxury of living in south Florida and collecting many of my own specimens. Flame scallops are very numerous, always on the underneath side of rocks and reef ledges.. I have tried to keep them on several occasions without much long term success. They always seemed to do fine for a...

    Electrocution?

If you lived to tell about it you were only shocked not electrocuted. Electrocution infers death. Also your equipment should plugged into GFI (Ground Fault Interruptor)outlets. If not chnage it to a GFI outlet! If you are not comfortable doing it yourself hire an electrician to do it. It may...

    whose the bad guy???

Hello, I have helped a friend who is a commercial lobster fisherman pull his traps many times. This in in south Florida by the way not main lobsters. I can't tell you how many times we have pulled up traps with a fat and happy moray in them and strangely no lobsters or only lobster remains. I've...
