I've never had any problems with tanks and stands. When I had all my tanks set up, many were just sitting on cement blocks. A 55 gal tank with 6 inches of FLAT support on each end (nothing supporting the middel) is able to handel the weight of the water and 2" of sand. BUT... I don't advise...

I spot feed when its at top also. They love crab. shrimp, scallop, and I even feed them dead minnows. (fishing bait)

I would consider waiting if you are removing the CC and then adding the sand.....lots can happen to the water quality once you remove all the "goodies" thats in the CC. IMO

Not positive on how long I've been using the silica sand, but I would gess about 4-5 months now. I had a nasty hair algae problem at the time I started switching to silica.... now there is none. I would shut them both off for a few hours, or until the bubbles have all cleared the water....don't worry about the bubbles on the galss... etc. Then just turn on the powerhead and wait an hour or so. If there is still air trapped in the powerhead you may get more bubbles..... Move the P.head...

Hard question to answer..... It all depends on what, and how ofter you feed them. Wild gess would be aprox 1 year. :thinking: Under-feed to keep smaller = prone to disease.

I would shut one of them off to determine which is causing the bubbles. Don't panic :nervous: I've seen too many say that bubbles will kill your fish..... Only true if its for an extended period of time.... Reefs have billions of bubbles in the tides..... If bubbles don't stop in a day or two...
