    SCWD Problems

I've been running one for over a year and it still works great! Maybe you just got a bad one, or maybe your pump isn't powerful enough??

    Attn....SQWD users

I have both a Scwd and a Seaswirl in my tank. I really like the seaswirl much better, although it is more money. Well worth the $ in my opinion.

Does anyone keep clams under VHO lights?

I have 440 watts of VHO and the tank is 24" deep. Do you think I could keep a clam in my tank? Some say you need metal halide and some people have told me I have plenty of light.

My rose anenome had a baby!!

It was so cool to watch. It just stretched the base out real long and skinny and then broke in 2 like a rubber band. This is the 3rd baby we've had, but never got to see the other ones being born.

    Gone for a week?

Buy one of the battery powered digital feeders. They work with flake and/or pellets. I've left my tank for up to 2 weeks before and everything was fine. You just gotta have someone to add topoff water for you, and leave them with a phone number to call if there is a big problem!

Weird film ontop of our water

Yep, more agitation to the top of the water will fix this right up. It'll be gone within a day if you point a couple pumps near the surface.

Help me get rid of this #$%# Condy!!!!

Hi Rory! The couple times I have traded off a baby rose anenome to the LFS, I just took the whole rock in. By the time we got to the store, the anenome was getting kind of pissed, and was starting to let go and the LFS person easily removed it from the rock. Then we could bring our rock back home.

I'm VERY disappointed in my Magfloat

Just bought the large size for acrylic. Used it last night first time, and it's terrible! Missed all kinds of spots. I don't mean the hard stuff, just the light green film that gets on the front. It's kind of like the surface is not flat, so it when you make a pass, it cleans a couple stripes...

    Best Clean up crew?

I have one fighting conch in my 140 gallon tank and I really don't think it makes much of a difference. My sand is really clean though, and it appears to be from my large assortment of hermit crabs and my 2 gobies, a Watchman and a checkered goby.

    get rid of excess nutrients...HOW!!

I bought a Gro-light at Lowes for about $5. The bulb said to use only a ceramic fixture because of heat, so I bought a cheap ($10) porch light type fixture I could mount over the refugium.

    ONLY snails dying

Did you notice any little white specks on the snail shells. They are called pyramidellid (spelling?) snails, and they are predators to other snails. I also ordered some snails from SWF a few months ago and all my snails in the tank died. They look like little white fleas around the edge of the...

    I can't find pickling lime!!

I've read that it's supposed to be with canning supplies, and I've tried several stores. Still haven't tried Walmart yet, I'll do that this weekend. Our Walmart isn't one with a grocery dept. Do the regular Walmart's carry this?

    Salifert test kits

I looked at one of my boxes, and it doesn't give a web address. Only a regular address in Holland! If you just want to buy, SWF sells Salifert.

Help....from anyone using Salifert Alk. test kit

I would try contacting Salifert. Lots of companies are really good about stuff like this. I wouldn't be surprised if they just mail you another tip. Or you could always order another test kit. Sooner or later you'll need it anyway.

    subtrate change question

Don't leave the CC in because the sand will filter to the bottom, and you'll still have the ugly CC on top.

    Sea Swirls

I didn't use a hole to stop the siphon, but the Seaswirl mounts high enough compared to my water level, that the siphon breaks after it sends about 3 inches down to my sump. I just make sure the sump is always low enough to handle it.

    2 royal gramma...yes or no

I have 2 Royal Grammas in my 140 and they get along fine. I bought them from SWF by the way, and they also spent 4 weeks in my 20 gallon quarantine tank. They pal around together and never pick on each other.

    Rio 3100 as return pump?

I use a Rio 3100 and also a Mag 5 on my 140 gallon tank. I have 2 1" bulkhead fittings, and it works just right.
