Jacksonville FL, Great deal on a 300Gal

Here's the deal. I haven't been giving my Tank enough attention, and I don't even have any fish, just a few snails and crabs. I am getting ready to move, and don't want to bring the tank with me, so someone is going to get a great deal, if they are willing to do some work. I am selling the...

    Vlamingi Tang, Expensive??

I bought a Vlamingi tang this weekend. It's gorgeous!! It's about 6-7" and my LFS sold it for $39. I started looking at my favorite fish sites online (can't post names here) and they seem to run $140-$280-???? Can anyone confirm that this is the correct price? Did I get a hell of a deal?

    Green Hair - HELP!!

I did a search, and found numerous threads on Green Hair, but none fit my case. My tank is now about 6 months old and I am having VERY bad Green Hair problem. It is widespread, and yet my tank water seems to be great. Phosphates didn't even register on the scale, PH 8.2, Amm and Trites 0...

    Algae on Acrylic

My new tank is the first acrylic I have ever had. What do you guys use to scrape algae? I don't want to use a CC as that seems very tedious and I have a lot of surface area to cover. I know they make MagFloats for acrylic, but I am skeptical as to whether or not it will scratch over time. I...

    Wet/Dry sponge Q

The sponge that goes in between the bioballs chamber and the pump area in a wet/dry, I know not all Wet/Dry have this, but most do. Where can you get a replacement? A regular sponge is not porus enough, it has to be a special sponge.

Cycling Idea, I think it's working

This may be a better cycling idea than even using shrimp, as it is much faster. I put 4 shrimp in my 300, and I guess there is just too much water volume for that to cause a spike. I couldn't hardly get any Ammo to show up. So, I used Ammonia, pure ammonia in a bottle and added about 1/2 a...

    Trade External Pump for Internal

I am looking to trade a Little Giant 4mdqx-sc external pump for a Mag Drive 18 Internal pump. The Little Giant is a little over a year old and in good working condition. Has spot rust like all externals get, but nothing major, and doesn't affect operation.

    New DSB Question

Well, the question isn't new, I know it has been asked before, the sandbed is new. Though this question has been asked, I can't beleive everyone experiences this problem. I finally filled my 300 gallon after 6 days with my RO/DI. The tank looked great, and had the rock all set up. As soon as...

    DSB Question

I am filling my 300 as we speak, and it is very slow with RO/DI obviously. My question is this: I put about 600 lbs of Aragonite sand in first and the water level is now just barely above the sand. The sand is very soupy and liquid like. Will the sand pack down and become a firm substrate so...

    Bonding Acrylic

What else can be used for acrylic other than weld-on type glue? Anything that can be purchased at HD or Lowes? Epoxy or something? I need to fill a small crack in my overflow, not hold a tank together, so I would think that anything that will adhere to acrylic would do. Has anyone ever used...

    Caulerpa Question

Does this stuff actually remove Nitrates, or does it just act like a skimmer and remove stuff that would become nitrates? In other words (not that this is the case for me) if you had a tank with high Nitrates, and added a refugium with caulerpa, would the Nitrates go down, or just not get any...

    Bulkhead flowrate

Does anyone know the exact flowrate on and internal overflow with a 1 inch bulkhead? I know the external overflow boxes are rated, but I can't help but think that an internal bulkhead of the same diameter would have a greater flowrate due to the U tube on the external. Anyway, I don't want...

    Dolomite DSB

On another well known Forum that I won't name, let's just call them --, they are talking about using Limestone/Dolomite for a DSB substrate. They say that it is as good if not better than Aragonite, as it also contains Magnesium. The reason this is interesting is, it is readly available at Home...

Deep Sand Bed and Aragonite (Southdown)

I posted this as a reply in the fish forum, but wanted it to have it's own thread, so it could be discussed: Well, I have to chime in here. I am getting ready to put a sand bed in my 300, and I am debating with myself. I can get Aragonite sand real cheap near my house, but I am contimplating...

Be afraid of Acrylic tanks no more!!

As many of you know, I sold my 55 and traded up to a 300 gallon tank. I got it off ----, so it was purchased sight unseen. When I picked it up, it was completely boxed up from movers that had moved this person. So I took it home and unpacked it. I can't tell you, or even come close to...
