LOL...This is also an area that I am grateful to have no experience in

Good luck, and I'll be watching your progress with this issue

hey i found a thread from a guy that has almost the exact same problem. he even has a manderan! beth told him that manderans have a natural emunity to ich and that it should stay wherever it's food source is. but i have a completely seperate tank with sand, cheato and pods in it. so I asked if i should put him in there just to be safe or to leave him in the display. we will see.

i woke up this morning and my mimic tang was laying on his side breathing very heavily. his fins were all tore up and he looked all-around terrible. last night he looked relitively fine, besides the ich and the rubbing his body on anything available to him. Such a drastic change over night. I did a fresh water dip on him (i know i know it just stresses him out more) which it did. he seemed better when I put him back in the tank but then died shortly after while my fireshrimp was cleaning him. I'm very very sad.

on the plus side I have my qt set up and ready to go, but I can't catch my chalk bass or any of my fish for that matter. I dont want to stress them out more than nessessary so I'm going to wait until the lights go out and see if I can't catch them sleeping. probably a stupid idea but I want to at least try. I dont want to wake up tomorow and find him like i did the tang. I went to the lfs that I trust completely and he gave me a reef-safe medication and told me to treat my whole tank with the fish in it. I figured i would compromise and treat the fish with it and leave the tank fallow. but I can't catch the darn fish! I know how rablan was feeling right about now.... helpless.

AAWWWWW...sorry to hear this...what meds did the lfs give you? maybe you could move your rock to the qt, and do hypo in the DT

chem-marin... he said it's the only one he trusted that I could afford. there was another he tried to sell me but it was like $50!
If I moved the rock I would have to move the inverts and the corals too. I have way too many to fit in the 10gal. I just dont have the resources to do it that way. Good idea though.

thanks. that's what i'm doing right now. if by chance I happen to be able to catch him then I'll put him in my QT, if not then he's on his own. I really hope he survives. i can't lose him too! it would break my heart.

ok time for updates. The chalk bass is doing just fine. His ick doesn't appear to be gone but at the same time he is acting and eating perfectly. I'm no longer worried for him and believe he is on his way to a full rocovery.

My zoas from carlos are doing very well, and have opened fully. I'm worried about two of the polyps on my kedd reds as they look sickly but the rest are fine and if the two polyps dont recover then I will just scrape them off and let the healthy ones take over. Pics are included although some are not very good quality.
More to come.

more pictures. more updates:
The candy cane has been in the process of splitting for the second time in 6 months. this time the two heads that I ended up with split at the same time so now I have four!

My GSP has finnaly started to take off. The frag I glued to the back glass has been spreading without me realizing it! pic not included
. I thought then stuff coming from the edges was just the glue I used but I realized that it was the mat yesterday when the polyps went away for the night and it appeared more purple than clear.
My "trash can zoas" are spreading like wildfire! they are pretty except for the brown ones that I just let sit on the sand so they wont spread off their sea shell. but my blue and purples ones are getting huge and spreading quickly.

my green ricordia had moved off the tiny rock that it came on and attached itself onto the larger Liverock I glued it to. Well, that little piece of rock still had some tissue connected to it so I left it on my frag rack to see what would happen. well, today I looked very closely and tried to get the best pic I could (will keep trying) and noticed that there is a tiny little ricordia growing from the tissue! It even has little bumps on it already! Also worth mentioning is that they ricordia was moving over the rock its now on and left little bits of tissue there also, so I expect to see two more ricordias growing there soon. the one odd thing I noticed was that the original ricordia has shrunk to a third its normal size. I assume that has to do with it focusing it's energy into making new mushrooms. I'm not sure that's right though. well, enjoy my pics and if you have any comments or questions I love to hear them!

hey melyp i was just catching up on your thread. very interesting stuff you have going on. and maintaining a reef is always a battle but you seem to be doing a good job and your tank looks awesome. i have a couple questions for you:
1. what is on the back wall of your tank and howd u get it to stick there? i have been wanting to get something growing on the back wall of my tank also and am looking into what other people are doing before i make the leap.
2. how do u know your mandarin is female? ive had one for months and have always wondered if it is a male or female. how can you tell?

I glued a frag of GSP on the back wall. I just used regular superglue gel. you could also lean a xenia close to your back wall and it will probably climb up it for you.
Most mandarins that are male have a large pointed dorsal fin and the females are much smaller and less pronounced. I'm not expert but that's what I've read and what I'm going on. All I did was put my hand up in front of the mandarin and she "flared" up for me and I noticed that her dorsal wasn't as pronounced as a male's would be. Thanks for following along!

Bad news to report..... My little clown is missing. There isn't any sign of him on the floor or in the tank. not even a body. I'm thinking that the culprit of this is the new emerald crab we got. Either that or those darn damsels! They never had a problem with the clown before.

thanks for the help! by your description, i am guessing my mandarin is female also. as for the super glue, i only have a 24gal nano and i am a little hesitant to put wet superglue in my tank. do you know if this will cause any il effects in such a small environment?
bummer about your clown dude sorry. i hate losing fish, only lost 2 so far but they were both sad days. the upside is that you could do some searching and find a clown that is already hosting a nem and pick them both up!!! i am working on picking up a RBTA and hoping to god my clowns notice it. i love seeing clowns in their hosts SOOO COOOOL!!!!!!!!!1

Sorry to hear about the clown....maybe it will turn up....I can't imagine an emerald eating a healthy clown

thanks guys both of you. My clown was healthy so I dont get it either. sometimes this happens though. Maybe my stupid damsels beat him up and the clean up crew just did it's job. There never was any agression between them before though. hmmm.
asharp- if you use the GEL then you wont have any problems. I used it in my 10 gallon nano plenty of times and never had a problem. just make sure it's the GEL not any other kind. once the glue hits the water it will solidify on the surface of the glob so it wont just wash off or anything. just make sure that if you can't take the rock out of the water to glue your coral that when you put the whatever to the underwater surface you give it a little twist to get the glue to take hold. it takes some practice to not get glue all over your hands or corals but you'll get it.
