Fantastic, Shawn! Scary, but true! You could be my brother from another mother than I never knew I had lol.
It wouldnt hurt to make a few holes or slots in the stand for circulation IMO. I really don't see siphon being an issue on the fuge drain pipes...there will always be some manor of air in them. I would imagine that it would create one for a brief moment but not enough to cause a problem. Well I'm off to work, I'll have to come back and re-read everything again in depth. But it looks great!

Wouldn't the water level always be above the stand anyway? The water level is supposed to be about 8 inches in the sump at all times, the stand sets the skimmer up to 6 inches..if I understood it right. being at least 6 inches underwater it shouldn't suck any air. As long as it is heavy enough not to float, and the skimmer is pretty big so I doubt it could lift it up out of the water.

Won't the water in the refugium always just drain and never even completely cover the drain holes, just maybe halfway as it flows out? 2 X 1 1/2 are some big holes. The water will never get any higher in the refugium than where it drains...They are like big holes in a bucket, it can't hold water at all above that point.
As always...I am not the expert.
Shawn,
LOL... I can't believe you would thank me for letting you work so hard. When someone (not to mention a perfectionist) makes something for you by hand it is always 100% better made than anything on the open market. Retailers make things fast and as cheap as possible and they want the most money they can get for it.
Folks like you make things the best they possibly can, and charge the least, even taking a loss and make it for nothing. You wouldn't even have to shine it up or buff it out to make it look good...because even all scratched with the bit and router marks...I think it's the most beautiful thing anyone has ever made or done for me.
I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for the unveiling (paper removal)..You must be just popping with pride, or at least you should be...it looks fantastic!

All of you...every single one of you should be proud of yourselves. Because together you folks have created something amazing... You have done something so selfless...What absolutly floors me......You did such a wonderful thing...............for me.

Your correct Flower. The water level in the first chamber of the sump is set at 8". Not worried about the skimmer sucking air or such, but the deeper the skimmer sits in the water you would put more back pressure on the pump reducing it's efficiency and limiting the water height adjustment you can make to the water height inside the skimmer. Not really sure I the skimmer stand would float, guess I'll have to see, definitely won't with the skimmer on top full of water running.
You are correct Flower the drains will never be completely covered, and should cover 1/2 the bulkhead at best.

Made a little more progress last night Flower!!!! We are so close to shipping!!!! Did a short leak test last night, and everything is looking good. I let it sit about an hour, and drained down and rounded all edges just as the sump received, so all router work is complete, started final prep work on the edges before final polishing. After final polish which I'm really pushing for Friday. Tonight going to finish prep work and fuge will be leak tested again, and looking to box up and ship Monday!!!!
I did unmask it last night, but was a little tired, so I'll have to take some updated pics to wet your appetite!!!

Sorry for the delays!!!! Won't get back home till 8pm tonight, but will update. I have to hit my sister-in-law up this weekend, they are moving into their new house so should have a good selection of boxes hopefully.
I was sitting around last night, and started thinking about the start of the thread and chuckled a bit, when I remembered you, "phrasing" the working relationship here as "brothers & sister" and I was looking at your sump, and looked down under my stand and saw my sump, and thought "big brother sump, little sisters sump". I'll have to post pics of my sump and yours, and when you see them side by side you'd laugh. Your sump would fit inside my fuge in my sump, and could almost fit inside the return section of the sump. Ironic thing is some of the material wa leftover from the sump..... LOL!!!

That's really pretty cool. I had forgotten that I had adopted you as a brother so I wouldn't feel too guilty takng advantage...LOL. I'm sure you noticed it didn't work. The more I see what a great job you did on the sump and all the care you take in making it, the more guilty I feel. Aside from my own dear mother, I don't know anyone who ever put so much effort to give me something I needed and desired.
You sure make a wonderful brother, I'm glad I adopted you!

Ok Flower....as in any normal family the siblings torture, and torment 1 another, and I guess I haven't been any different with keeping you in suspense all this time, but the time has finally arrived for the unveiling of your fuge section......Again the following pics aren't the greatest, but it will ease your mind.....

Sorry for the dirtiness.....I had just brought it in from the garage from running a leak test again, and didn't wipe anything down really.....As you can see the front panel is clear, and easy to see through.....

Just a different angle shot of the sump/fuge.....

Sorry horrible end view.....again still needs the final polishing to eliminate all my smudges and fingerprints.....

View from the back side of the sump/fuge combo......I've already started the process of polishing of the routed edges on the fuge section....

Here's a shot from the back end of the fuge.....you can see how reflective the black really is.....you can see the images of everything behind the camera......
So Flower she is all but finished.....Just want to do a final leak test starting tonight into tomorrow night, and then Saturday afternoon, should be about the time everything starts getting boxed up ready to ship out on Monday.......

I want you guys to look at the following pic and tell me about how far I should extend the return lines from the fuge down into the return section of the sump. Again want to minimize any splashing of water to prevent any micro bubbles in this area????

The pic isn't the greatest, but currently it probably sits about 7 1/2" from the bottom of the sump. I was thinking of cutting the return pipes to where they are roughly 5" from the bottom of the sump? Any reasons anyone can think of for not submerging the return lines from the fuge?????
