I'm very confused by the question but will try to explain. Salinity is the amount of salt dissolved in water. If you take a cup of water from your tank and put it in a bag, it will be the same salinity since it comes from the tank. Now, LFS's tank water will usually be less than your tank's SG because a lot of LFS keep their salinity lower.

~Update~ Testing for tank. Ammonia is at 0ppm, nirite is at 0ppm, and nirate is at 20ppm. How does it seem is going? I have still been feeding henry 3 times a day with two pellet or one. What do you guys think of the tank?

lots of fish stores tout thier lower salinity as hypo salinity to keep pests away. I don't know about all pests but ich is the main one and it needs to be .012 or lower to be killed off.

Ok thanks.
This is the tank that i am currently using for my for saltwater. http://cgi.ebay.com/SALTWATER-REEF-AQUARIUM-SYSTEM-CANOPY-12-GALLONS-KIT-/190484551604?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c59c397b4 Does anyone have any recommendation what i should keep in it or what should i add to this tank? Thank you!

12g that's a mighty tiny tank. 2 pounds of rock and 2 inches of sand. You will only be able to keep one little fish and some snails. In saltwater tanks..the smaller the tank the more difficult.

.009 is the reccomended salinity ebcuase its a sfae distance from .012 which is the cut off. So if your salinity goes up a little due to evaporation you are still safe.

I believe pet stores do that because they don't know any better. And I think hypo is much lower like .008

I have kept numerous things in my 14G BioCube at different times:
1) 2 Ocellaris clowns w/ a Clown Goby
2) Orange Spotted Filefish w/ Yasha Goby/Pistol Shrimp and TailSpot Blenny
3) Ocellaris clownfish and Yasha/Pistol and Tail Spot Blenny
4) ORA Fridmani Psuedochromi and SixLine wrasse
5) Blue Spotted Jawfish
all with snails and either a Skunk Cleaner Shrimp or a Fire shrimp - both of which were moved to different tanks as they grew.

His is a 12g not a 14g that 2g makes a difference.

Just giving some ideas, that's all.

Sorry if I came off harsh...it wasn't intended at all. I was concerned OP may have misunderstood and thought you had them all at once or that your critters would go in his. He was thinking 4 -5 fish + snails and shrimp in his 12g to start with. He thinks others have kept that many but no way. look at post #173

I didn't think you came across harsh...
I missed #173. WOW, who the heck told him he could have 4+ fish in a 12G cube?
I mean, sure 4-5 fish if they're all Clown gobies, LOL

I was gonna go 4-5. I was probably keeping at 2~3. Later on life. I am hoping to upgrade to a biocube tank with more success or just a regular tank. No Harm done. I am really open to people thoughts. Hmm would you suggest another filter to prove more water moment? Would any of you recommend this? I was planning to get the 10 gallon one. Any thoughts? thanks http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2754145
