why'd you get an algae infested used one? Did you get it for cheap?
Also sorry for the OT, but I heard Moorish Idols are really difficult to keep and has a shorter life span if kept in captivity.. is this true? I'm planning to invest on some after I research for a while and get myself a nice 75-100g reef tank.

Yes, I bought the system used for a very good price. Not only was the price good but it came with the stand, canopy and metal halide lights.
Moorish idols are extremely difficult to keep in captivity. In fact, I started out with two and one never really got acclimated well to my tank. It is not an ideal fish for most people, especially for people with smaller tanks and limited experience. Good luck with your future setup.

I didn't see what you used to buff it with. I used novus 3 step system on my 55 acrylic. Did a nice job. What did you use?

I have no idea what the tank would go for new... I'd estimate around 6 or 7K. I also used novus to buff my tank. It didn't completely get rid of my scratches, but my tank had a lot of them. It did minimize them to the extent that you can't notice them unless you are right up against the acrylic.

6 or 7K, either way, you got an awesome deal on the tank. I'd love to upgrade to that size with the next house - not sure if I would want to go new or enjoy the refurbishing...
yeah, Novus, I loved the stuff. I used a small "mouse" vibrating sander and just put on cloth in place of sandpaper. Worked great.
I saw that other thread posted that instructs using sandpaper. I'm sure that would do a better job overall - especially with really bad scratches... but would take quite a while.

Is there a reason the water looks cloudy in many of the pics? Just curious, I imagine it looks more clear in person than in the pictures.

In the earlier pics it looks cloudy because it was cloudy. If it looks cloudy in these pics, I don't know. Doesn't really look cloudy to me.

One idea that was thrown out earlier, the tank may look cloudy because you are looking through 8 feet of water. I can't be sure from the same point of view as you though. My guess is that it does look very clear in person.

Aaaaarrrrrggggghhh!!!!!

A bit annoyed right now as I was just cleaning the tank and while rearranging a few rocks, my xenia rock came loose and fell into the bottom of the rock structure. So I can either tear apart the ENTIRE STRUCTURE to get it out, or I can just forget it. I may have to just let it go as it's VERY DIFFICULT to tear down about 170 lbs of rock and re-aquascape when I can't even reach the bottom of the tank from a ladder. This is really frustrating.

I read that you were thinking of getting a blue spot ray and a couple of Moorish Idols together in the tank. I had three blue spotted rays in and one Morrish Idol in my 750 Gallon tank and the Moorish Idol kept on nicking the rays that I had to remove the Morrish Idol from the tank after it had killed one of the rays. I would recommend that you double check their compatibility. Great tank and pics by the way....

That really sucks. None of the literature suggests that an idol will generally be a threat to a ray. Mine is fine so far with my ray but I've only had them together for a month or so, and the idol is still small.
This gives me something to think about. Now I'm not sure what I should do with my tank next. Thanks for sharing your experience...

Not yet... I am giving my tank a little extra time before adding anything else. Thinking about another 2 weeks. I added the idol a month ago, and about 50 lbs of liverock about 2 weeks ago. Want to make sure everything is stable before getting something else.

I'd let it go, it may climb its way back out over time. I have had one climb up the glass in the back when I thought it was a goner before. Certainly not worth tearing the tank up for...

Hope your idol is doing good. Ours has been getting harassed by our Imperator angel and has gotten a bit splotchy.
On the plus side it is eating more readily now.

still have no clue how to use that stuff. dont work for squat for me
