Can someone explain to me why silica based sand is bad for an aquarium set-up? Isn't the glass that the aquarium is made from silica based sand?

Just wondering if anyone uses automatic feeders and what their thoughts on them were? It seems, for the dry feedings, that it would help dispense the same amount every time, eliminating the chance of over, or under, feeding. :thinking:

Can you EFFECTIVELY use a 48" 542W MH system on a 60" tank? I am thinking so, there would only be 6" on each side where the light wouldnt be, but it would disperse into the water... Let me know what you all think! Thanks!

I have had 100 pounds of live rock in my tank for a month now. Its the only thing in the tank - other than sand. Are you supposed to "feed" liverock?

I went over to my tank, just to take a look of course, lol, and there was what looked like tiny sand particles floating in the aquarium. I thought the powerheads were kicking up sand, so started to look at where the sand was being kicked up and noticed that it was coming out of the live rock...
