quick fix... cut that top tube with the cap almost to the t fitting and reglue the cap on... run a piece of plastic tubing (should also hang out of the hole about 6 inches) that sticks into the water inside the drain pvc through that 1/4inch hole in the cap. Should make it almost silent.

do they have to be really cheap? If you're set on picking a semi-aggressive/aggressive clown, flame angel, and the sixline you'll need to make sure you're picking semi-aggressive tankmates. I wouldn't toss a scooter blenny or any dragonet in a tank that hasnt been going for at least 6 months...

yeah it works, but I will say that if you run the $10 surface skimmer on a 75gallon tank you may not get the best results... on my old 20long setup the $10 hagen surface skimmer hooked up to an aquaclear power head got rid of film in less than 30 minutes.. definitely not a waste of money on...

If you get zeroed parameters really quickly, chances are the tank had not actually cycled.. I don't trust that a tank has cycled till the diatom bloom has hit and then the nitrates have zeroed back out. Its not a case of "knowing everything" like you put it, but trust me I did actually learn...

Here's what I'd do instead... get you a good HOB overflow box (don't want to drill a stocked tank) and put that on the small end... then run you another 20long or 10gallon on the bottom and put equipment in there.. You can either do a chaeto fuge or a turf scrubber (what I personally use) then...
