They call it "salt creep" because it seems like the salt creeps out of the tank.

    Opinions on lighting ?

I use uri vho's and ice cap products, I have good growth in my invertebrates, and my corraline algaes. I would recommend vho's to anyone with a tank that is 20" deep or shallower.

    Evil Emerald Crabs?

My cleaner shrimp recently died and my emeralds ate his remains. I bought another cleaner shrimp and he appears to be missing after one night. Does anyone think that the emerald crabs enjoyed eating my first cleaner so much that they ambushed my new one and ate him?

    crappy lighting

Seeing that you are only buying a few pieces of live rock at a time I assume that you don't have alot of money to spend at once. This was my scenario. I bought live rock selectively a few pieces at a time. This is the path to the master reef tank. As for lighting I have only vho's and I...

    Salt Residue?

Could be a leak, just keep an eye on it and see just how fast it builds up. More than likely it's just drips from water changes and moving stuff around.

    Pictures of reef tanks

If the tank is up against a wall stack up the rock in a stadium bleacher like fashion using the back glass for support. Try to make terraces. It is to much trouble trying to clean the back glass in a reef tank. Let coraline build up on it. The only glass I clean in my tank is the front glass...

I'm sorry it is spelled cephalopod. I doubt seriously that this animal is in the same family. Cuttlefish and Octopi are in this family.

    Whoaaaaa!

It's nice to hear stories like that. It has the movement of a cepholapod's tentacles, it might be smarter than any animal in our tank.

    surface of water dirty

Put a powerhead near the surface to break the surface tension. It will cause all that stuff to pass through your filter system and your invertebrates.

    Algae free tank

They pay people to clean it which makes it real easy on the business. Looks can be deceiving, behind any good looking tank comes a good amount of maintainance and biological filtration. There is no easy way out, I've been doing this for 5 years; patience and a love for the hobby is the key...
