    1st water change??

If your nitrates are at a good level and your organisms are doing fine I don't see why you should do a change. I only do a change when my levels begin to show warning signs.

    Newbie needs advice.

I have done both set ups and I found a fish only tank (not having live rock) is much more diffulcult than a reef tank. Live rock is the best thing any tank could have. You definitely need good lighting to support the life on and in the rock. My tank levels have never been so perfect and my...

    Whoaaaaa!

I was just looking in my tank and first I found two bristleworms in a tank which I thought did not have any. But then I saw the real alien. This thing was coming out of an opening under piece of live rock and it had five long, clear tentacles that were reaching out and grabbing crushed coral...

    Bad Anenomies

They are also called aptasia anenomes. Type this in a couple of search engines and you should find a ton of pictures.

    Bad Anenomies

They are very bad, they will multiply like crazy especially if you fool with them. They will also sting you other inverts. Get a peppermint shrimp or two b/c he will eat them. This is the best way to handle the situation for now.

    eco-system

That is quite possible, I haven't had to do a water change in a long time. I add about 2 gallons of make up water every 3 days. This is water due to evaporation. I add vitamins and other supplements to my reef. The tank is a 110 by the way. I use a large protein skimmer and a wet dry. I...

    phosphate/silicate remover?

Let's find the cause of both of these first. Silicates might be coming from your tap water, if you are not using ro/di water test your tap water. If it is not your water are you using a silicate sand for a substate? Using a silicate sand will cause your tank to always have diatom blooms...

    How good is your skimmer??

My skimmer produces about 2 cups of fluid every 3-4 days. The product stinks real bad so I assume it is working quite well.

Need Help! Who Knows Their Stuff?

Check your phosphates, probably in your tap water and get your PH up using a buffer, preferably Seachem.

    Protien Skimmer

It depends if you want to hang it on the back of your tank or install in next to or in your sump. I use a Top-Fathom brand skimmer. They are made if PVC and are very heavy duty. I have never met anyone else who uses one except for the people in Baton Rouge who are in the aquarium hobby and...

Wanna see a new animal in you tank?

All of us here examine our tanks extremely close. We always find new and interesting creatures and just when we think we seen it all we find something brand new to look up or post on this discussion board. Well here is a little tip for those of us who haven't tried this. After your tank...

    What is this???

I don't know, I have seen worms like that in my tank. The best time to see them is after you turn your lights off and look around your tank w/ a flashlight. You will see all kinds of cool stuff.

I'm new,.. anything wrong w/ this picture?

If your turbos or astreas fall of the glass or rock they can die within 24 hours if not turned over. Also take time acclimating you snails to your water even though they are inexpensive--they are very sensitive to water changes.

    Aiptasa

I used one peppermint shrimp in a 110 gallon tank. He ate all the aptasia's in a matter of days. Just don't feed you fish as much or nothing for 3 or 4 days. It will work!

    Let's show off!

I not sure how we can do this, but it would be pretty cool if we can show off all of our tanks. It would be neat to actually see some of the tanks and organisms that we discuss online. Maybe we can use some of the free webpages companies offer to start posting pictures of our tanks. Let's...

    Re: Domino Damsels :-(

I've caught one of two damsels in my tank by a method I found on this board. I have since given up on the second one. He seems to be to smart. Take a 16oz coke bottle(plastic) and cut off the cone, right above the label. Now invert the cone back into the bottle and use a couple pieces of...
