    Granite in SW??

NO - Granite is not a good idea - the minerals will leach from the rock and be detrimental to your entire system.

Cranberry - I'm glad to see that you were one of the fortunate ones and only suffered minor damage and inconvenience - keep those tokens as "show and tell" items for your local reef club.

    red slime in fugium

Yes - you should cut the lights back - most run the fuge lights in opposite the display - this helps to alleviate the PH swings between night and day. 24hrs is too much.

I too am a retired Master Electrician and can say that, on more than one occasion, have found water to be fully energized with livestock unaffected. The danger begins when a ground source is introduced. Then the electricity has a path to travel - all too often people have been that source of...

    My First Coral

I agree with Mr X - the frog can easily be detached from the plug it is glued to and re-glued to a rock in your aquarium - best done out of water with super glue gel (dry both surfaces being attached) - it is really a simple process - it can, if need be be performed under water as well.

    Need some help

Hey Bonita - you should not have a problem with that setup as water will seek it's own level. The only problem would be if there was resistance in the outlet then it could possibly cause a vapor lock and not allow water to flow - but in looking at your diagram the outlet level appears to be...

Opinions on a Berlin Classic Venturi Protein Skimmer for a 72g BF...

IMO any of those can do the job well for you (not familiar with Current model) - I bought a Jebo 520 just to check it out and with a couple of slight mods it is outperforming my Berlin. Good luck

    Handling a feather duster

the tail half of the tube should be buried - you can use your finger to dig a furrow and then cover it up and place a small rock over that. The worm will extend it's tube as it needs to and sometimes will anchor it to the rock.

    Handling a feather duster

As a rule feather dusters tend to thrive more if they are under or between rocks at the sandbed and have light to moderate flow. I have tried a couple midway and they only lasted about 6 months - had one in sandbed only and it closed up shop and moved.

    Refugium Plumbing

They do make 1/2" ball valves if you want to throttle it back - you could also split the return into multiple inlets to increase the directional flow in the tank similar to the job of a powerhead. In one of my tanks I split the inlet four ways to increase surface agitation and eliminate the dead...

how do you clean live sand?

There is beneficial bacterial colonization in the sand bed - by siphoning the sand you are disturbing and/or destroying those colonies. A good clean up crew and good water movement are the best solutions. Agree with post above re: snails and hermits together - IME they just don't last long -...

Did you ever finish that basement sump project? Last time I talked to you you were looking for a Sequence for it. Sorry - it's been a while since I've been on the boards

Please Help me!!! My tank is dying

You will need to post more specifics to get a reasonable diagnosis of your problem. Post the test results of ammonia, nitrite, nitrate,SG for starters. Have you added or changed anything recently that precluded these deaths? What kind of water are you using and what is your maintenance scedule...

    Tank looks horrible--

You may want to cut back on your lighting schedule - to just a few hurs a day temporarily and check position of tank to insure that natural sunlight is not hitting it. I would also add several more turbos and/or an emerald crab in there to combat the algae.

    flow

Corals require the flow for reasons of obtaining food from the current (filtering) and also for cleanliness, they are unable to remove detritus etc from themseleves and rely on flow to keep them clean.
