    Help with problem (pic attached):

Well now that I have a camera I can show this to you, this stuff has been in my tank for a few months now. None of the inhabs seem any worse for wear but I don't think it is supposed to be there. Any ideas?

    Preparing Tap Water

Prepare tap water by running it through an RO/DI filter :) It will make a world of difference long term. Cheers!

    protein skimmer ?'s

I would stay away from the SeaClone if at all possible. I had one for a year and a half, got fed up with it and bought a Euro-Reef. You may be happy with one in the short term (a few months) but IMO you will not be happy with it long term. It just seemed to loose its capability over the months...

    Shrimp Activity

I just put two cleaner shrimp and a firefish into my setup three days ago (60G / Bi-Color Blennie / Clarkii / setup for 1 year or more everything stable)... they just seem to kinda hang out behind my rock work. Do they eventually become more active? I am concerned that perhaps my temp is a...

    Filling Up The Tank

The water you put in your tank for top offs (your tank water will evaporate due to heat from lights and equipment, not to mention your heater lol) should be pure as the salt does not evaporate. Water changes should be done with pure water mixed with salt to the same salinity as your tank.

    Live Rock

You don't HAVE to... but IMO it is a very positive addition to any setup. It improves the tanks biological filtration, provides natural hiding places for your critters, and looks very nice especially after it is well established and has good growth. In general it will improve the quality of life...

I got a tempting offer, what do you think it worth??

If he left it then it means he doesn't want it anymore. If he wants money tell him you'll give him 10 bucks for it... or he can worry about disposing of it :) j/k a few hundred dollars is fair IMO. Sounds like everything is going to have to be re-done in the tank anyway... the water params are...

    fuge help plz!!!!!

If there is not a constant flow of water then my guess would be air bubbles built up in your PVC piping... run water through it for a while to flush all the bubbles out, as long as there is a check valve or some other way of keeping air from entering your return line when there is no water...

    Neon Green Algae

Just kinda came out of nowhere.. i've had purple coraline for a year or more now... this stuff just in the last month. Nothing added either... strange. Thanks for the replies.

    Neon Green Algae

that's what I don't get.. my water params are all fine as well. Just wondering if anyone knew what this stuff is. Snails won't get rid of it. I've read a lot of people on this board that say they have it.. but no one knows how to get rid of it! :) Cheers!

    Neon Green Algae

lol... yeah. only I didn't paint it neon green :( it's weird, not consistent... looks like the neon green has faded in some parts and the algae has gone away completely in others... but there is still a large swath of it across the back of my tank.

    Neon Green Algae

I'm getting this weird neon green algae on my back glass. It is hard, like coraline , and next to impossible to scrape off. I'm also getting little splotches of it where the water from my return line hits the front of the glass. The back of my glass looks like someone painted it neon green. Any...

    Clear water questions

How is the protein skimmer working? Is it pulling a lot of gunk out? I'd try carbon in your Fluval. I use Kent Reef Carbon and have been very pleased with its performance. Is the fluval and the Skimmer the only water movement you have? If so I would add some powerheads ASAP. The 404 is not...

Adding Live Rock to my tank

I just read this today. An excerpt written by Mike Paletta: "As mentioned above keeping nutrient levels low starts at the beginning, as it is easier to keep them low from the start than it is to reduce them once they have gotten high. This starts with the live rock. It should not be immediately...

    RO/DI Unit Questions!

Kent makes good units, as well as spectrapure. You do not hook an RO unit directly up to your tank however, you install it to filter your tap water. Any RO unit is better than no RO unit, as long as you get a TDS (total dissolved solid) meter to test the water.. if it reads '0' then you are good...
