    Too much flow??

I don't think there is such a thing as 'too much' flow... of course if you have a 10 gallon tank and are pumping 3000GPH through it you may have some problems. If you keep it within reason you will be ok :)

I'll put my vote in for Maxi-Jets

    Reverse osmosis unit

Hardly have what on? RO units don't make water very fast... I'm not sure I understand your question.

    tank ?

Yeah, fill it up outside and see what happens... if the tank bows or anything like that. You should be able to replace the metal strip pretty easily.. just go to home depot and ask :)

Will this help my Nitrate Nightmare!

you do have a lot of fish, but w/ a decent protein skimmer and high quality water you should be ok.... it is not insanely overstocked. What is the reading of your tap water? You may want to consider getting an RO/DI unit. Cheers! HTH.

    water

What type of water are you using? Do you have a 'cleaning crew'?

    Too much flow??

what is the GPH rating of the PH's? You should be shooting for at least 10-12x turnover... some prefer as much as 20x or more though.

    Protein Skimmers...

Euro-Reef. I've had mine only 4 days and I think it is the single most impressive piece of equipment I have ever seen for a fish tank.

    Please Help The Slow Kid!

Squidd... I agree, however when first starting out the size of the tank determines the total initial cost. Let's face it, a 125 is going to cost a heck of a lot more than a 55. You can always upgrade lights and such later, and a 55 is a very decent starter tank IMO. You do make a good point...

    skimmer suggestion

Don't want to be the only one going against the grain but I had a SeaClone for a year before becoming completely fed up with it. Save yourself the heartache and get the best from the start. Go w/ a Euro-Reef or ETSS.

    Return flow rate?

You've got that backwards. The overflow should be rated higher than the return pump.

    Please Help The Slow Kid!

I think the first thing will be to decide what size tank you want to start on. That really determines how much you need to spend on equipment. A 55 gallon is usually around the range people like to start w/ IME. FOWLR (fish only live rock) is a popular route to go. A quickly thought-out list...

    Euro-Reef and Gunk ?

Cool. Thanks for the replies! I just adjusted my riser so it doesn't collect all water. Hopefully this thing will get going soon... can't wait to see all the 'gunk'. cheers!

    Euro-Reef and Gunk ?

My Euro has been running for about 3-4 days and I'm getting a whole bunch of water in the collection cup. About how long should it take before it starts to really skim? Is there anything that I should do / be concerned about? Thanks!

    Brown (normal) junk

If you don't have any already, some snails and hermit crabs should help take care of the problem. Look at the reef packages on this site to get an idea of what needs to be added.

    clean up crew

The blue legs that I have in my tank are a roving band of murderers. They are like a cult or something, tracking down and mutilating poor defenseless Astereas.... very sad. :( Other than that I haven't had any problems with them.

    stupid ? about water

Yeah no need to do it for a week... 24 hours is good. Mine usually end up sitting around for a week though, but that is due entirely to laziness.
  18. nacl-man

    look at this!

At least 6-8 weeks IMO. Let things stabilize for at least a week (i.e - get the same readings on a test kit for 1 week) and then you can think about adding fish. My .02

    Please vote!

I wanted a new protein skimmer to replace my SeaClone. My wife told me to buy a Euro-Reef. It doesn't get any better than that. Except when she told me to replace my crappy 44 pentagon with a brand new Oceanic 58 with Mahogany stand and canopy. ($650.00!!!). I have the best wife ever.

    Need help!!

Fighting conch should take care of detritus that collects on the bottom. Mine is a tank and keeps my sand really clean. The brown stuff you are experiencing could be diatoms. Common in new tanks. 3 weeks is an incredibly young tank, how are your water quality tests?
