is a yellow tang ok for my tank?

Many say no YT in a 55. I hapen to think it is fine. It has enough room to roam. Would limit the L/R as it takes up too much space...perhaps no more than 40lbs. The 1 lb per gallon rule is in my opinion overstated. That said by the time you allow for water displacement there is probably not much...

how old is your oldest fish? poll...

It's actually a frshwater tropheus african chiclid that I've had for 8 years. As far saltwater...the longest was powder blue which I had for about 5 years (sad when he died of ich) and now my longest is my majestic angel which i have had for about 3 1/2 years or so.

    favorite fish

Apologies for starting another thread but I should have captioned my"scribble angels" thread "favorite fish". Scriblle angels get my vote for all around best fish....personable, relatively hardy, eats out of owners hand, good temperment, eats everything, beautiful colors, etc. etc. The only...

Queen angel...will it eat my reef?

Many advised me against getting scribbled angel because it was not reef safe. mY SCRIBBLES HAVE NEVER TOUCHED ANYTHING. Don't know about Qween but scribbles are fine so I suppose you have a good chance of Queen being ok. Good luck.

    scribbled angels

Scribbled angels get my vote for best all around fish. Personable, relatively hardy, eat out of your hand, colorful, descent temperment, just overall great fish. Anyone have any experience with scribbles? What's your vote for best all around fish??

    Beth-still need help

ammonia-0, ni-o, ph-8.1,NA-20, bare tank-no decor, stressing since hypo level acheived over 48-60 hours, don't know how to post pics but don't know if they would help as what you would see are otherwise good looking/ healthy fish that are simply breathing rapidly. ...very rapidly. Could not wait...

    Beth-still need help

Using fully calobrated refrac. In fact have 2 and they both read 14ppt. As far as PH, red sea test lab. Also for ammonia...... I've of course done several water changes so I can't see how it can be water quality....the tank was well cycled before I started hypo.......I'm very perplexed as there...

    can flame angel handle copper?

Some clarification.....The QT is a 55g. It has been up and running for 6 months. It is bare and has a cannister filter. As you can see it's fully cucled. As far as taking down salinity, I've been told to do it in small increments over 48 hours. I actually took closer to 60 hours and did it...

    can flame angel handle copper?

Thanks beth but the flame was not very sick. Had a few spots on his tail and was eating fine until the third day in hypo( after taking 2 days to lower salinity). Then all of the sudden started breathing really hard, lost color and stopped eating. Died today. Other fish also breathing hard...

    Beth-hypo question

Flame angel passed. I've never had any succes treating flame angels for ich w/ hypo or copper. I'm done w/ FA's. Oh also...other fish also breathing fast and again all readings are fine....it's got to be the hypo.

    Beth-hypo question

Looking at flame angel right now in hypo. All readings are good including 14ppt via refrac. He's breathing hard and all of the sudden not doing well. He was fine up until today when after 72 hours of lowering salinity, he then started to breath hard and is losing color. He really did not have...

    can flame angel handle copper?

I tend to agree that hypo losses have been numerous. Unfortunately with all considered, it's probably the better option. I'm looking at my friends tank as I write and they are breathing quite hard. PH is fine and hypo level -14ppt as measured by my refrac........high risk treatment but perhaps...

    UV Sterilizer for Ich?

Agree that uv's do little to help ich. Also kick ich does not work or any other reef safe chemical for that matter. IMO they are a waste of money. I also will tell you that my experience w/ hypo has not been great. The fish seem to really breath hard during treatment -1.009 or 14ppt. 3-6 weeks...

    Beth-hypo question

Thx for response. Are you saying that it s/b 6 weeks after symptoms are gone Vs 3 weeks stated on this site? Also the all ecompasing question of whether the ich actually dies or just lies dormant on the bottom only to live again once salinity is raised still needs to be answered. Thx again....

    Beth-hypo question

The thread on this site suggest leaving fish in hypo for 3 weeks after all signs are gone and then raising salinity back slowly over 1 week. I have read that the ich actually does not die but rather lies dormant on the bottom of the Q tank and can actually come back after the water gets back to...
