    butterfly or tang?

When I bought my hippo it was about an inch - got ick right away and spent six months treating it. He's a happy healthy addition to the tank and about 5" and getting bigger. If your tank is truly 120 Gal and quite established there are a number of butterfly spieces that will do fine. Klien's...

    Success Pairing Maroon Clowns!!

Rook, thanks for straightening me out on maroons - I am planning on getting Joyce Wilkerson's book this weekend. I am also glad I didn;t purchase a number of maroons simply to have the female systemaitcally kill them off. Again Thanks!

    Denitrifying Filters???

probably as good as one of those tap water purifiers (waste of money) Unless the unit is a refugium I wouldn't bet my tank on it.

    Rock to Rock

Yes!! - Super glue can work underwater when used correctly - there is also an epoxy you can get at your LPS that is safe and works under water!! Either choice is cheap!!

    Adding supplements and carbon

Adding the supplements won't hurt but with a FOWLR your really not feeding anything other than the LR with really doesn't need much. As far as the Carbon filtration - I use mine 24/7 for three weeks and then take a week off and I'm sure this is too much but it shouldn't hurt - watch out for fish...

    9 week cycling...nitrates still high

Your tank is cycled - your nitrates are not part of the cycle process. High nitrates are a sign of an overachieving biofilter with no anerobic bacteria. a FOWLR tank can have nitrates as high as 80ppm with no problem - the inverts such as feather dusters cannot survive in this environment but...

    Mushroom and Aiptasia?

These things spawn and grow fast - get yourself 10 peppermint shrimp now and let them eat these early. Don't feed your shrimp - force them to eat the aptaisia's!!

    lbs of liverock per gallon

depends on what you plan on doing with it. I have less a lb per gallon in my FOWLR - but I don't like that my fish hide behind the LR. I would rather see fish and animals than have a rock garden -but that's just me.

    almost done cycling... what next?

Two ocellaris clowns are a good start - they are hardy and inexpensive and fun to watch. You need to put some fish in that tank to feed the biofilter. You have a very big tank which gives you losts of options. Start slow - go with the clowns (without anemone) and let them survive for about 2...

    vacuum lr?

Unless you are taking the LR out of the tank and using your shop vac - the suction on your vac is fine. A better idea is take your powerhead and point it at the spot and blow the stuff off - this changes the water flow and shakes things up a bit. Good forthe tank!!

    Sally Lightfoot trouble

OK - the salinity in the tank should be between 1.021 and 1.027. nominally around 1.0225 to 1.025 is best. I have two Sally Lightfoot's and can tell you your problem is NOT your water - these things can almost live in fresh water and will thrive in 1.030 easily. you either have a mantis shrimp...

    low light anenome/coral pics?

maroons are pretty but I like ocellaris clowns - they are real goofy swimmers and appreciate being fed.

    SWF.com order cam today!

Sounds bad..Most of the catches these days are done using nets, your Naso may have been snagged during capture - I would suggest you get on the horn and let SWF know immediately about your fish. They will most likely replace him.

    my starfish is leaking

BTW - looking at your set up - you need two powerheads rated at 200gph setup at opposite ends of your tank.

    my starfish is leaking

I don't feed them at all - they eat on their own. I have an orange star and a red star that cruise around the tank eating algae off the substrate and glass. I have two green serpent stars that eat right out of my hand. I have one tiger striped serpent star that hides most of the time and I have...

what goses good with a dwarf pygmy angel?

70 Gal - Yellow Tang...HM... he's your real problem - the Angel could care less unless it's another pygmy. It's the Tang that's the problem.

    Success Pairing Maroon Clowns!!

From my experience and research you should never introduce ONE new clown fish into a tank with one established clown. try to introduce two or even better three - this gives the existing fish the option to figure out which one it wants to mate with. remove the other two into your QT tank and...

One of my clown fish isn't eating?

I have had false percs from the beginning so I will say that I haven't had experience with true and whether they eat bloodworms. On the issue of gender - it depends - if the larger one was already in a mated pair it will not change gender to female as quickly as an unestablished male will. Your...
