    flame angel success stories

the only stupid thing you can do to a Flame Angel is put it in your tank and go on vacation - that's how I lost my first one the second one has been in the tank with six damsels, 2 ocellaris clowns, three tangs (my wife's influence), and tons of stars, shrimp, crabs and snails. He is shy though...

need help.. seting up new tank

try this - Fill your tank 3/4 will salt water, get the temp and salinity right!! Get about an 8" piece of 1/4" plastic tubing (about $2.00) Get a plastic screen for windows (about $6.00) Put about 1/4" of play sand at the bottom of the tank. Place cut pieces of the tubing across the sand and...

Upgrading to bigger tank - have a few questions

The filtration pads in your Fluval will turn into a nitrate habitat and when you replace them - they will recycle the tank (even a small amount) hy deal with this type of filtration when you don't have to. Better to let nature do all the work so we don't have to :) You could run the Fluval...

    Do i need a skimmer?

A protien skimmer is a must for your tank. this is especially an important piece of equipment if you have a lot of fish. that doesn't mean you don't need on for a reef tank - you do. A protien skimmer removes waste and nutrients in the water (nutrients will stunt the growth of most corals and...

    Molt Crazy!

Your first shrimp didn't make it because of either preillness before you got it, too fast to acclimate or the other shrimp ate it when it molted (they will do that you know) Your cleaner shrimp I'm assuming was very small when you got it - Mine was real tiny and molted three times ina month as...

    LR without lights...

The CHEAP lighting will work just fine. As far as losing most of the life on the Rock - stop. Put your tank together based on simplicity (I'm starting to sound like a salesman) but you are better off going with a Deep Sand Bed Euro/American filtration system versus a Live Rock filter. Use the...

    How long does it take!

well I am not going to say your LS is the problem - but I don't trust and LS within 60 miles of my house. You can get an RO/DI filter on ---- for about $150.00 for 75 Gal per day - that's what I did and it has been worth every penny. the only other answer would be a better protien skimmer -...

    Power head prob

Point the powerhead at the surface and make some waves- this will increase your virtual tank size, give you water movement - but not interfere with your growth Some animals just don't like direct water movement

    Big News For Me!

How much sand? Do you have a plenum system or just sand? You cold save yourself a lot of trouble later by putting together a deep sand bed that will operate as your filter. I recommend you build it now and always be satisfied.

    my starfish is leaking

OK - I had the same problem and I knew exactly what I did when it happened - first he's fine and is doing great. When you add fresh water to your tank make sure your star fish is no where near you - small salinity changes effect the health of star fish severly and if he's right near where you...

One of my clown fish isn't eating?

first what type of clown? Most if not all clown fish prefer algae based food but will eat brine shrimp too. Blood worms are not a good food for clown fish Your little guy may be the same gender as the big one - which means there is some harassment going on. Relax - Clown fish always seem to...

Upgrading to bigger tank - have a few questions

You have the opportunity to do it right!! Use the DSB for your Bio-filter - NOT your Live Rock!!! Here's why - and trust me I have researched this for more than three years. (find other posts with all of my information on it somewhere on this site) The Deep Sand Bed will not only prove to keep...

    Powerheads

if you think it's too much circulation you could point one directly at the surface to create water tension and this would help diffuse some of the power. Just a thought

Live Sand or crushed coral maby a mix?

I'm probably late to game but I'd suggest you buy a plastic screen, a piece of 1/4" PVC pipe and set up a plenom bottom with live sand. Place cut pieces of the 1/4" plenom on the glass bottom, place the plastic screen over it (so the animals can't dig through entire floor) and add about 3.5" to...

    Brittle Stars??

Get a Serpent or Brittle star and no - they don't eatg fish. They do however eat anything that dies in the tank - that's what their good for - keeping the ammonia level even by eating anyting that's dead.
