i would do a fuge/sump if you can fit it in.. measure the biggest size aquarium you can fit under your tank.. then decide on what skimmer you want.. imo .. most hob skimmers are junk.. they have too small of a reaction chamber... you get a lot more for the buck on in/external skimmers...

i would simply get 2 48'' t5 retro if i where to do a fowlr.. if i where to do coral i would do 4 either 2 48'' t5 and 4 400 se mh... ( i just like 400 but 250 would work fine) YzGyz

few q?.... how are you going to change your airstones when they go bad??? and do that air pump pump in hot air?? ( cuzz of the compression of the air.. some pumps pump hot air which can lead to higher tank temp) YzGYz

i just add 16 tsp to my 13 gal top off tank... mix for 20 min and just top off as is... took me a little while to figure out how many tsp i need to keep on top of the damand but im good now... ( i started off at 1 tsp per gal... once mixed i did not added more... aggitating the kalk mixed...

test you ph and alk.. if they are in line then just dose the alk till the calk is in range again. then, dose in equal parts again.. just dont do anything to drastic to the water parm... if you are werry.. do a cuple of small WC till you are in range again.. GL YzGyz

you should keep salt creep down to a min.. anything that salt froma salt creep lands on is gonna die.. just wipe things down once in a while and you will be ok.. YzGyz

you dont need to overdrive them.. but, since you already have the ballast might as well use it... all you need are 4 36'' t5 and you should be able to grow anything.. well except softies and such.. thwy cant handle that much light unless you acclamte them over a good time... im growing lps on...

actually, SLR are still the best retro reflectors.. the tek II was a wast.. they produce less par than the tek I .... they just spread the light out more.. but we need umph not distibution... get the IC.. they are a lot better... YzGyz

you can run your machanical filters if you want ( skimmer / anything with filter floss but thats about it... no need to run any powerheads... just the main pump is all that is needed YzGyz

dripping kalk ( lime water... mrs wages pikling lime) adds both calcium and alk in equal amount... but if you just want to dose alk.. you cane use A&H baking soda... you can bake it for 1 hr at 400 deg first ( rids of moister) and can raise PH lvl if you also have low PH... google 'diy 2 part...
