    Nitrate Question??

A rise in nitrates could be due to many things. My first guess would be to much feeding. Others may have a better idea so this will "bump" you up to the top.

    I have a dilemma

I use a pair of sharp scissors to frag my polys. You could snip them off if they get to big.

    button polyps not looking good

I would not worry at this time. I'll tell you what happened to me. When I decided to switch to a dsb, I removed my corals and LR. I discovered a colony of green button polys that had fallen down behind the rock that I had not noticed missing. They must have been behind the rock for over a year...

    coral question

I do it the same way as fish. I float the bag for about 15 minutes, add a little tank water, wait 15 minutes, add a little tank water, wait 15 minutes, add a little tank water, wait 15 minutes, remove from bag and place in aquarium. I do not put the water in the bag back into the aquarium.

    Removing Fish

This has worked before for me. I have used a safety pin to pin a piece of shrimp in the bottom of a dip net. I then put the net in the water with the opening facing the glass of the aquarium with it about 1 inch from the glass. As the fish swims into the net to get the shrimp, grab the net and...

    Newbie Lighting Question

You will probably get lots of good advice on your topic from this messageboard. However, I would suggest that you do a search of the this board. I have seen many good threads on lighting for reefs. Many will recommend a retrofit system of metal halids and either power compacts or VHO lighting. I...

    I have a dilemma

I would think you could superglue polys on the back of the crab. However, that means taking the crab out of water. Best bet is to let the crab do his thing.

    Branching frogspawn....

Have you checked out the thread of "The Coral of the Week" that NM Reef did on Grogspawn. It might have the info that you need. I just recently got a frag of Forgspawn and it is doing good. I haven't had it long enough to see how fast it frows.

    Adding new sand

I have heard of people taking a clean piece of 4" PVC pipe and lowered one end to the sand bed and then poured the sand down the pipe. I heard that there was cludyness but that it was not as bad as dumping the sand in. The suggestion from Tellico Tornado is good also. I can't do that because of...

    algea questions

Probably the only other alternative is vacuum your CC bed each time you do a water change. If your nitrates and phosphates are measuring high you can try the phosphate & nitrate sponges in your filter. If this is a newly set up system then this may be a normal part of cycle. I would suggest...

    Input Please

The PO4 and CA tests are Red Sea. The ammonia and nitrate are Aquaium Phamaceuticals and the PH and KH are Tetra. These are the only types that I have been able to find around here. I guess I need to order Salifert from somewhere on the web. I did a retest this morning and the Ammonia was back...

CORALS-How many can you add to your tank ??

NM Reef, I went to your webshots and website. Your aquarium looks awsome. I saw on the webshots that you had a Yellow Tang. Did the "Tang Police" come and take it away because it was in a 55G?:D :D

    Input Please

I use the Red Sea test kit. Not much of a choice in CA test kits here.

    Percula suicide

:( :( My condolences to your loss:( :( As Bill Clinton would say "I feel your pain". I have had at least five fish over the years to commit suicide. I hate to put a top on my aquarium because of the maintenance to clean it so there is no degridation of the light. I guess maintenance would be...
