I turn off the skimmer for about 4 hours after dosing. How quickly? I dont know. But it would depend on the concentration, the skimmer, flow, and etc.

I have a 2 MHs + 2 VHOs. The timer turns off just the 2 MHs when the temperature is too high. The 2 MH would be on again after 30 minutes. The 2 VHOs stay on the entire photoperiod. During these wicked summer days, I would have about 2-3 cycles.

When I did the 1st recipe, my (baked or unbaked) baking soda would not dissolve. So, I am using the 2nd less concentrated recipe.

I have the ACJr + DC8. I only have the temperature probe . I use it as a glorified timer. I also use it to turn off my MH once the tank temperature gets to 83deg. Before my Tunze, I used the ACJr as a wavemaker. I love it.
