    LR just arrived!

I'm like a kid on Christmas morning....! Any special Do's and Don'ts for stacking it in my tank (other than making sure it's sturdy!)? I'm happy that is smells good - it was shipped well (from this site). Lots of light green, purple, orange and dark red....

Think my tank is finished cycling!?

I agree!!! I am new and have a number of books but I find it very reassuring to get advice from my fellow hobbyists.

    Off with the canister?

What kind of canister do you have? The Easter basket stuff - LOL - sounds like the filter floss, which I believe is for mechanical filtration and bacteria build-up. My canister also contains filter floss and carbon - although, I just have to pour the carbon into a cylinder - I don't have pads...

    Off with the canister?

I will, thanks - I'm sick of that carbon, anyway! Should I leave it totally empty? What about the micron cartridge?

    tank finally cycled!!!

Just curious as a fellow newbie (or noobie - I don't even know how to spell it:rolleyes: ) - what did you cycle with?

    Off with the canister?

True, I didn't think of it that way:) Thanks. I guess the more filtration the better! I've just heard so many negative things about canisters (elevate nitrates, etc) So you think the added LR will help the cycle? No lighting (I've read the recent debate:p ) or water changes until it's...

    Plants for salt water?

Re: you're mom's plants in glass pots....I don't know for sure, but she's probably rooting sprigs. My second hobby (SW fish first, of course!) is houseplants and I often cut pieces from my plants, root them in water and then plant them in new soil. It's getting to be a regular jungle in here -...

    Off with the canister?

I ordered 20-25# of LR from this site, which should be here tomorrow! This will put me up to about 55-60# total. I tested my water and, to my dismay, I accidently started a mini-cycle in the last couple of days (rearranged rock, added small piece of LR from lfs and changed carbon - I'm...

Red Sea Salt ( Good or bad)

I've never used the Red Sea Salt, either, but I'm always an advocate for consistency. Stick with what you know will work. Although, I probably don't have as much experience as you (being a newbie, and all) so I've still gotta go with my old stand-by, Instant Ocean.:)

should I do a water change?

    Thanks Buzz!:D

should I do a water change?

The ammonia was a little over .5. I bought the LR from an established tank at my lfs so I assumed it was fully cured - guess I was wrong???:( So you don't think I should do a water change? Should I just let it cycle through? Thanks in advance!

should I do a water change?

I just tested my water and yikes - my ammonia spiked to an unhealthy level - last week I added a 7# piece of cured LR and I also think I may have stirred up my sand bed a little too much when I was rearranging! Ahhh....I guess I've started a mini-cycle - what should I do?

    curing confusion

I bought 25# from this site, therefore, I'm expecting some die off due to shipping etc.

    curing confusion

Thanks - I'm going to keep the new LR in a holding tank and do frequent water changes until all params are 0 - is this the best idea?

    curing confusion

The more I research I do the more confused I get....my LR should be here this week so I've gotta figure this out  Should I do water changes to control the ammonia and preserve any critters while curing? I appreciate all of your help - my inquiring mind never rests....

    What happens if...

Thanks Wamp and BigMac! I think I'll add at least another inch of argonite (slowly) just to be on the safe side!!!! Esp. because I have a lot of circulation and some spots are deeper than others....
