Closed Loop Circulation

hey uncle fester, I noticed in another post you said you had a frilly white nudibranch. I think I have the same thing but have been unable to positively ID it. Mine has a solid white body 1" long with lace like frilly things on each side which are also white. Is this what you have and if so what...

    BAKPAK-CPR

www.cprusa.com is their website. I have a bakpak on one of my tanks. for what it's worth I don't recomend them. They do a good job of skimming but there are some problems. The first is the nick name given to this unit (bakpak bubble machine)...

    Does anyone have nudibranches?

hey Uncle Fester. The frilly white nudi branch you mentioned, does it have a solid white body with lace like frilly stuff on each side? If so what the h*** is this as I have one two. Came in as a hitch hiker on a piece of live rock and I think it is feasting on my hairy leather. Doesn't seem to...

    What will fit?

I would switch out the 4 50/50 bulbs for two 10,000k and two true 03 actinic the first chance I got. The 50/50 bulbs I don't think are true actinic they are just blue bulbs 7200k and not very good or attractive. You'll notice a big difference in the 03 actinic. With this light you should be able...

    slug/worm thing

not sure if I have the same hitchhicker or not as mine appears to be some kind of worm covered in white. The white almost looks like a large snowflake with the worm in the middle. No digital camera so I cannot show a picture. It seems to move around quite a bit at night and tends to avoid the...

    Clean up Crew

best and safest bet are snails, snails, and more snails. Get several different types that do different things (nassarius, trochas, Cerith, Margaritas, astrea, Turbo) about 1 per gallon total. You can go with hermits but the only some what safe choice is Scarlet Reef hermits and even those some...

    How do fish sleep?

my false perc floats at the top of the tank on it's side in the back corner. My yellow tang wedges itself between the back of the tank and the LR. My flame hawk is alwys in the back of a cave in the LR, same place every night. Baggai Cardinal, doesn't seem to sleep as it's always hunting for...

    Slime on surface of refugium

refugium lights are on 24/7. I don't think it is the calurpa as the water under the surface is clear for the most part the slime is just on the surface and it's also kind of foamy.

    Slime on surface of refugium

I keep getting a buildup of slime algae on the surface of my refugium. No noticable slime in my display tank just on the surface of the refugium. Is this normal? Just wondering if everyone/anyone else has this in their refugium. Should I be removing it or just leave it alone? Refugium has been...

    hair alge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

your clean up crew is pretty small for a 150. Sounds like you could use 75 - 100 snails. Other than that what are your nitrate and phosphate levels. This is what the algae feeds on and until you get these reduced your tank is just an algae farm (I know as I'm currently fighting this same...

    Enough For Corals?

need more info. What size tank and more importantly what are the tank dimensions. I have 110wt power compacts on my 37 reef and have no problem keeping leathers, mushrooms, Star Polyps, and several other soft corals. Also keep a flower pot LPS in this tank.

    Baby Snail Question

I have dozens of baby snails in both of my reef tanks. They are all over the glass and I am wondering if anyone knows if these baby snails (the size of a lead pencil tip) are knocked off the glass by my cleaning magnet can they right themselves or do they die if they fall on their back. They are...

Bakpak skimmer- which one should I get?

I would agree with the previous post don't get the bak pak bubble machine. They skim great but the rio PH it comes with is a POS. The Biobale is a waste of time and you end up removing it (so why pay for it). for the money this is not a good value and the bubble problem will never go away.

    adding button polyps

Button polyps are pretty hardy and you probably couldn't kill them if you tried but it's always good practice to acclimate all corals correctly. I usually float them for 30 minutes then put half a cup of tank water in the bag wait 15 to 20 minutes repeat then put the coral (not the water in the...

anyone with hermit crabs that never attacked corals?

I have about 30 scarlet reef and 10 left hand hermits. I have seen them crawl all over every Soft, LPS, and SPS coral I have and they have never bothered any of them. I have seen them eat snails but the snails may have already been dead or dying as I've never seen them take out a snail that was...
