    Quick answers: 1 - heater yes, lights don't really matter - maybe put them on for live rock though. 2 - Don't worry about ph, but keep an eye on the others. 3 - There will be nothing to skim yet, but some say yes, some say no. I wouldn't bother skimming yet.

    Just a question: Why were you adding calcium if it was showing off the scale on your test kit? If your calcium was over 500, dsoesn't it start forming like snow in the water? I'm sure something like thast happens. Get a second opinion on calcium test results?

    You need calibration fluid to check your pH meter. Unless you do this you are just totally guessing that there is a problem with your tank pH. If there is no problem you have no need to do water changes.

    Yeah, but rainwater can be filthy. Depends where you live, what's nearby, atmosphere etc. Have you calibrated your pH meter?
