Strange worm in sandbed - what???

Okay, I need help identifying a strange worm(?) that has multiplied dramatically. First, it is not a fire worm / bristle worm. I have had these in the past. This creature is orangish-brown in color. It's body resembles an earthworm. They are typically about a half-inch but have very long...

    Blue Hippo Tang - wounds/scratches

Thanks. I'll continue to watch and will post a better picture if I can get one. I got home tonight and he still appears strong and alert. I am familiar with Stress Coat. I used to use it with a fish only tank. Is it okay to add with the more diverse reef inverts, corals and such? I posted...

    Blue Hippo Tang - wounds/scratches

You are right, I did say Percula Tang!!! I must have had the tang on my mind!! Fixed it now. No, breathing is normal (or was last night, we'll see i a couple of hours how he is doing some 16 hours later). I think the Gramma is friendly also. They have all been swimming around in the open and...

    Blue Hippo Tang - wounds/scratches

I only have the one tang. Other fish in the tank are a percula clown and a royal gramma. I don't see any spots (white or black), so I don't think it is ich. I agree that the tank size is marginal at best for a tang. This tang is very small (about the size of a 50 cent piece). Oddly, he...

    Blue Hippo Tang - wounds/scratches

Hmm, interesting. What lines are these? The lines on my tang clearly have depth, like an abrasion.

    Blue Hippo Tang - wounds/scratches

By the way, I also posted in the New Hobbiest section since that area seems to get the most traffic and replies. Folks there (2 replies) seem to think these are just scratches from rocks as he is settling in to the new environment. Maybe I am over-reacting.

    Blue Hippo Tang - wounds/scratches

Thanks Beth. The marks appeared rapidly. The fish was introduced into the main tank on Sunday after coming out of the QT tank following purchase in late January. On Tuesday evening, there were no visible marks. On Wednesday, I did not notice any marks, but because of coming home from work...

    Blue Hippo Tang - wounds/scratches

That is sort of what it looks like, but all the inhabitants seem to be getting along. Clearly I only observe a small portion of the time, but I have seen nothing that would make me think that is what is goung on. So far he seems very spry and alert, but I am afraid that thee woulds either ARE...

    Blue Hippo Tang - wounds/scratches

I posted this last night in the "disease" forum but got no reply. I am concerned that time may be critical, so I am re-posting here in hopes of a reply. THANKS! >>>>>>>>> I have a new Blue Hippo Tang that I purchased near the end of last month. He was in the QT until this past Sunday (4 days...

    Blue Hippo Tang - wounds/scratches

I have a new Blue Hippo Tang that I purchased near the end of last month. He was in the QT until this past Sunday (4 days ago). Today I notice what appear to be random scratches (white) on his body. A photo is attached. Ideas? Other inhabitants are: Percula Clown Royal Gramma 1 coral banded...

    Who's messing with my Gramma?

Thanks for the feedback. I had not considered a bacterial infection, but had thought that the perc could be the culprit (although I have never observed any problems). Would a bacterial infection be possible given so much time? He has had this fin problem for 3 months now. Would an infection...

    Who's messing with my Gramma?

My Royal Gramma has been in the tank probably 3 months. Within a week after moving him from the Q-tank to the main tank I noticed that something was nipping at this fins. By the end of a month he had no tail fin and his other fins were showing significant signs of being nipped. He eats well...

    Did they starve?

I don't think so. They've been living together for about half a year. Maybe they had a falling out with each other! I don't know. It is wierd. I just can't imagine why I'd lose two fish in two days with good H2O? I know that the powerhead and the stress of being caught for hours or longer...

    Did they starve?

I re-checked all of the parameters last night. NO2 at 0 and NO3 at the lowest level on my test kit; so at or near 0. CA at somewhere over 300 (I have tried 3 different CA test kits and still can't find one that I can read reliably, but that's another issue), KH at 11. PH at 8.3. SG is 1.024...

    Did they starve?

Thanks folks, for the prompt replies. I guess I'll re-check all of the parameters one more time tonight. I am really puzzled. The angel is (was) a new addition, relatively. I QT'd him for two weeks and he had been in the main tank about 10 days. The gramma had been with me since October...

    Did they starve?

I am depressed and confused :notsure: I lost two of my three fish this weekend and can't figure out why. Water quality is good. Inverts seem to be fine (shrimp, brittle stars, snails, crabs, corals). I fed them on Thursday evening. I usually feed daily -- occasionally I will skip a day. I...

Overflow U-tube bubble - why now?

Yes, calcium additions much more regularly as of late as I have gone from fish only to now inverts and corals. BTW, I lowered the level on the inside the tank overflow box about a quarter inch and that pushed through the bubble. We'll see if this may have some lasting effect.

Overflow U-tube bubble - why now?

I think smooth, but I'll watch it more closely to see.

Overflow U-tube bubble - why now?

No, that is the wierd thing. It is the same pump --- even the same tubing. No change. I guess it is possible that the pump is wearing out and flow may have dropped off. I re-made my sump about 3 months ago -- doubling its size and adding on a small fuge, but that was 3 months ago -- this...

Overflow U-tube bubble - why now?

Okay, I am hoping that one of y'all bright people can help me figure this out. My overflow has had the same exact U-tube for 8 - 10 years, and the same Rio 2600 return pump for the same amount of time. During this time, I have probably only had a bubble develop in the U-tube maybe 4 times...
