Will Changing to Sand cause a cycle

One last thing I want to mention. I haven't tested her water yet, and won't pick up the tank for about a month. We are going to move our current tank and change the carpet. My wife wanted to do this in about a year, but I don't want to have to take down the tank after it's set up. Anyway I'm...

Will Changing to Sand cause a cycle

Thanks for the reply, I forgot to mention, that I will also be adding 70 more pounds of live rock from my 55 so I'll have about 380 lbs of established live rock. Also, a stupid question.... How do I vacuum my sand. Finally, I think I've pretty much gotten it figured out. As far as adding fish...

    Refractometer Calibration

If you just got it, I wouldn't recalibrate, I'd just put some distilled water on it and make sure it reads 0. If the calibration is off, I would calibrate it at the temp stated in the manual. Just my opinion.

    Refractometer Calibration

Mine is the RHS-10ATC and on page two of the manual it says "adjustment of refracotometer should be made und the condition of 20 degree C enviromental temperature. And all refractometers have been adjusted to null before they leave our stock."

    Refractometer Calibration

I bought the one on this site also. It came calibrated and checked out good, but after awhile the calibration knob accidentally came loose, throwing it off. If I remember correctly the instructions did say something about calibrating at a certain temperature, but I don't remember the temp. I...

Will Changing to Sand cause a cycle

I've posted a few questions about a tank I'm about to upgrade to and I have another one. I currently have an established 55 gal tank w/40 lbs of live sand. It is well established and the tank is full of pods. I am ugrading to an established 180 gal tank that I have yet to pic up. It has 310...

    New Clown Goby Help

I don't have a reef yet, I am in the process of setting up a used 180 that has some corals and I just purchased my first few shrooms in my tank, so eventually it will be a reef and here in the few weeks the little guy will at least have some corals. As for pods, if that's what he's eating...

I hope your right, I find it strange he's so active at night. I'll just keep watching him and make sure he looks healthy. Thanks

    New Clown Goby Help

I got a new Clown Goby on Tuesday. He is hiding out all day in the live rock. The only time I see him is at night with the lights off, then he's swimming around the tank. The problem is he's not eating. He doesn't come out to eat when I feed the other fish. I tried feeding him tonight while...

    Increasing waterflow in a 180

Would you mod 3 at 2400 or at 1500? I'm just worried about the push directly out of the mod at 2400. By the way, I think I was reading an earlier post of yours that gave me the idea of the mods, if so then thanks.

    Fish Compatibility

LOL, I don't blame you, I just got the biggest tank that will fit where I need it, it will curb the stupid urge to upgrade again. Hopefully I get this set up and it's there longer than I'm here :). The tank I'm getting has CC, but I'm gonna switch it out with my sand and add some more, I don't...

    Increasing waterflow in a 180

looks good, my only problem is it's sitting on a wall that someone walking in will be able to see behind it, so I don't think a closed loop will work for me, the wife would never go for it :).
