just bought nanocube 12 gal DX........

When I talked to the dealer I bought it from, they said they had just spoken with CurrentUSA and said they were aware of the problem and were changing the way the part is manufactured to eliminate the cracks. So the next run of skimmers should be crack-free (hopefully). Always seems to be a bug...

What type of paint for glass.

acrylic latex works pretty good, make sure the glass is clean and of course paint the exterior (but you knew that). :-)

Wet/Dry made with kitty litter box!

what are you keeping/plan to keep in your display tank? If fish only, that looks like it would work fine, but if you wish to keep corals, you can replace the bio-balls with live rock and perhaps put a few more pieces of liverock next to your pump. Bioballs tend to become nitrate factories and we...

just bought nanocube 12 gal DX........

Just received my fission skimmer. Nice little unit, although the one I got came with a cracked elbow, called the dealer I bought it from and they are going to be sending me a replacement asap. Have to wait a while still before I setup the system, I don't want to put it on a counter or table, so...

    SRS Nanoskim

Has anyone purchased and tried out this product? I found it available on [hr] and it seems similar to the v1.2 skimmer. I am curious if it is as high quality as the v1.2 seems to be, or if its just a gimmick item.

New Acylic Tank Bulging at center

put a straightedge (ruler or level) along the front of a glass tank and you will notice that it is somewhat bowed, acrylic will bow as well.

I looked at tha Hydor flo, I think I will get one as soon as I get the rest of my equipment in. I also plan on getting a surface skimmer, probably the v1.2 I've seen posted about on here.

just bought nanocube 12 gal DX........

........and I couldn't find the "born on date" I've heard about, where is it located? Also, this unit came with built in "nitevu" leds, which isn't even mentioned as a feature on the manufacturers website as available for this tank. Also came with a "bonus" of a magnetic algea cleaner that looks...

what do u feed ur clownfish?

If I am not mistaken, bloodworms are the larval stage of mosquitos. Definitely not something a clownfish is likely to have ever seen. I feed OSI flakes, and frozen marine mix type cubes, Formula One I believe it is. One cube every 4 days with flakes in between does the trick for me.

    Yet another sand question

The southdown/old castle sand is very fine calcareous argonite sand. The paving sand you mention is silica, the main ingredient in glass.

    Chill out

Is the top of your tank covered, or open to the air. A closed top tank would be warmer than one that was open to the air. Conversely, you'd be doing some major top-offs on account of evaporation, although that can be used to advantage for adding calcium products, buffers, and other additives. If...

    Opinion on Little Giant pumps?

I have a 3-mdqx-sc Little Giant that I bought direct from the factory here in Oklahoma City as a remanufactured unit (got a vendors discount, my employer makes all of Little Giants boxes), it was rather loud for a couple weeks, but its practically silent now, and still pumps its butt off. Runs a...

Wierd circles on the bottom of my dsb

are these on top of the sandbed, or on the bottom and you are looking at them from the inside of your aquarium stand? If they are on top of the sandbed, I would venture so far as to guess that the brown one is a diatom bloom, and the blue/black one may be a slime algea bloom.

potential danger of tank falling through the floor

Most estimates I've read say to figure about 10-12 pounds per gallon in a fully equipped and stocked reef tank, thats including EVERYTHING involved. so your 110 gallon will weigh about 1100 pounds if not more.

dosing my 29 gal, kalkwasser, how much?

1000 ml is about one quart, so maybe half a teaspoon of kalk powder and mix with RO/DI water or the nearest substitute you have, don't mix with saltwater. Idea here is to topoff your evaporated freshwater.

what Kalkwasser mix do you use ?

The pickling lime should stay good for a while as long as you keep air away from it as much as possible. When I open my first can, I'm going to seal the lid with duct tape when I store it, just to try to keep CO2 out of it as much as possible.
