    Kent Float Valve

I installed a kent float in my sump, a decent cordless drill will work, and a spiral drill bit will also work, just go fairly slow. Mine didn't crack. Don't use a spade bit. lol

Hey firedad, Aquarium Concepts right? Good store. Live rock that he has isn't the best that I have seen, but he has some good fish. You might go check out Crystal Clear Aquatics in Norman, BEAUTIFUL live rock, and its 6.50 a pound I think. They also have live sand for reasonable price.

    Strange Conversation

You can run a bead of silicone along the seams, but it absolutely will not add to structural integrity. It will only give you peace of mind knowing that no leaks will occur, as long as the acrylic is properly bonded. If it isn't, no amount of silicone will help.

    live rock

I would think that since this rock has to be shipped to you, that it will likely undergo some die-off of any macro-organisms in/on the rock. This means that you will likely have to cure it again, whether it was cured at the swf facility or not. Personally I would hope that its uncured so as to...

In answer to your bulb question, the bulbs that came with that light are likely toward the red spectrum, not so good for lighting an aquarium. They tend to promote nast algea. I would recommend you get an actinic bulb, and a 10k bulb. Or perhaps a pair of 50/50 bulbs. either would work pretty...

whiteish/clearish tentacles on store bought hard coral

Not lime juice. Limewater. My bad. Limewater is just the english translation for kalkwasser. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Wood rot on inside of tank stand??

I've splashed all sorts of saltwater inside the bottom of my stand, the woods swells a bit but thats it. When it drys it probably leaves salt crystals in the wood fibers, and mold and mildew most likely can't live in that.

    Just had an idea!!!

Dovetails are nice, but get them wet and they will eventually fall apart as the wood drys and shrinks. Finger joints would probably stand up to moisture better than a dovetail would, but they can be a pain to cut. I've never seen a tank with a wooden fram like what you are proposing, so I don't...

Type of Glass for Custom Tank

How big of a tank is it? Acrylic is easier to work with, normal woodworking tools can machine it usually, and it is more transparent than glass, but glass is cheaper for smaller tanks. Tempered glass is good for bottoms, and probably ok for the sides, but you can't cut tempered glass. You have...

whiteish/clearish tentacles on store bought hard coral

It COULD be aptaisa anemone. And From everything I've read/ heard, and seen, these thingsare purely pests and elimination of them is something to strive for. I've heard you can inject limewater into them with a hypo, that will kill it and add beneficial calcium to the tank! :) Injecting the base...

    anemone survive in a dsb?

what kind of anemone do you want to keep? Condylactus sp. anemones from the caribbean/atlantic are more forgiving than the anemones associated with hosting clowns. If you wish to keep a clown hosting anemone, you will need to upgrade your lighting, have pristine water quality, and your tank...

    horseshoe crabs

I've also heard these things are bigtime diggers. They also grow LARGE. I've seen on nature shows a scientist flip one over on a show once to show its legs, this thing had to be almost the size of a manhole cover.

    Looking for live sand

I'm looking to get some small scoops of live sand from various peoples established aquariums. I'd be more than happy to pay a reasonable amount + shipping. Looking to buy at least 3 or 4 scoops, each from a different system. Diversity diversity diversity. Thanks.

    Brand New to Saltwater World

swf.com has a nice selection of reading material. I personally have Natural Reef Aquariums by John Tullock, The Marine Reef Aquarium Handbook by Dr. Robert J. Goldstein, Both of Martin Moes books, and about 3 years worth of FAMA and MANY issues of TFH. Mr Moes books are starting to look fairly...

    Square tank???

I've seen a 60 gallon tank that was a cube, 2 feet on each side. I am assuming you mean 4 feet wide, 4 feet deep, and 2 feet high? If thats the case, you will have to reach through 3 feet of water to reach the bottom rear. Sort of a stretch, but I guess it would work. Now if you mean 4 wide, 2...

    copper in Seachem Reef Plus

Ok <wipes brow> phew. Thanks. I appreciate your answer. I guess it would be a bad idea for a company to market a product that could kill the organisms it is supposed to benefit. Speaking of which, is this product just red juice with a few fairly useless trace elements, or does it actually...

    Power Compact Question

I thought I might add, PC bulbs SEEM to be slightly more expensive than equivalent wattage in VHO. PC bulbs are also more fragile than VHO tubes because of the U bend.
