What can I do to get scratches out of my glass?

I have used regular Bon Ami (NOT Comet!) to polish VERY light scratches out of car windshields before, just keep it rather moist. Dunno if it will work all that well on aquarium glass though. If you can catch a fingernail on it, it generally can't be polished out. Test it on an inconspicuous...

    Skimmer OR LiveRock?

Another option you might consider is getting a 5 gallon jug, and buying that water they sell at Many Wal-Mart superstores that have the water treatment booth. That water is RO/DI and is run through a UV unit. And its inexpensive too, I pay 35 cent a gallon.

computer power supply to run cooling fans in canopy?

Ah yeah, thats right, new ATX formfactor uses a header and switch wired into the mobo to activate the power supply. DUH, I should have known that. :) Yeah, an AT power supply would be better if a computer power supply is used. As for using a power brick like Sal T mentioned, thats a VERY good...

    Leveling my tank

the bottom glass of your tank, if tempered is probably at least an 3/4 of an inch thick, figure twice that if its untempered, adding rock and sand and all the weight of the water to it will not affect the bottom pane of glass at all I think. Its mostly the outer edges where the tank frame is...

    building a tank

I don't see whay you can't use thin sheets of acrylic to protect the plywood. As long as you seal the corners with silicone and cut the sheets to fit very tightly within the plywood box, you should have no problems. You should not even have to glue the acrylic to the plywood at all as long as...

    what skimmer do you use

I voted DIY because I use a modified Seaclone. I pulled out the skinny inner tube, and cut it to about 4 inches and stuck it back in. Dramatically increased contact time, and am producing much better skimmate than it was stock.

    Leveling my tank

Something else that might be a good idea is to get some 3/4" styrofoam and put it between the tank and the stand, it will help absorb some of the uneven-ness of the stand and tank. It will compress considerably once you add water, so it should not be very visible. be sure you use it all the way...

    I buried my flamehawk alive!

Ah ok, I looked into getting some ordered myself and the home depot I tried that at said I would likely have to order a whole pallet of the stuff, which I would assume is MANY bags. Definitely not worth it, I only need about 75-90 pounds of the stuff. Plan to use quality live sand to do the rest...

    I buried my flamehawk alive!

That definitely sucks Wrassecal. :( Hope he makes it. Umm, on another note, where did you get southdown from? I've been to a few Home Depots, A lowes, and 2 Ace Hardware stores and did not find it. Did you buy it locally, or order it online? I'm looking to buy a couple bags for my tank. And a...

    What should i test for?

I don't mean to intrude on your thread HNF2K, but thought this might pertain in this thread. Has anyone used the test kits offered by swf.com? If so, are they good kits?

Adding live rock a little at a time?? How??

Its my understanding that all live rock needs to be cured once it reaches your home anyway, pre-cured or not. Especially if it was shipped recently. It may have done SOME curing at the lfs, but if they move alot of rock each week, it probably did not cure very much. And no, adding uncured rock...

Water flow for 36x24x18 65 gallon

Is 1000 gallon per hour from return pump enough? I also have a penguin 550 powerhead in the tank blowing sort of across the back wall.

    New weekend pics

Wrassecal, thought I might add, I went to Norman today and checked out Crystal Clear on Flood. Best live rock I have seen in a LONG time in OKC area. Bought 4 pounds of it in fact. And rather cheap too, for this area at least. I also saw the largest hermit crab I have seen in my life. Thing was...

    salt test ?

box type hydrometers tend to vary in accuracy, you might go to one of your lfs's and ask if they have a refractometer you can test yours on. Just test a samle of water on your seatest and have them test the same sample on thier refractometer, then note the difference and keep that in mind...

    Clams under VHO

Thanks fellow Okies. I went to Pet Vet in MWC a few days ago and decided they have a decent selection of corals and fish, but their live rock selection isn't so good. The Reef shop has a great selection of fish, inverts, and corals, but are WAY pricey. Aquarium Concepts, nice store, GREAT...

    Found my eel

Uel, I saw a program on the learning channel I believe it was about public aquariums somewhat recently and there was soething in there about the keeping of octupi. Public aquariums put get this, ASTROTURF around the top of the tanks. Oddly enough, its the only solid thing that octupi absolutely...
