    12 Gallon Eclipse...Help

Hey there Tl, I have an eclipse 12 as well, I have had it running since 9/07, and have found it to be a good system with a few mods to it. I am not sure about the light retro you posted above since it seems to have no sheild to protect. Maybe I missed that part... I did upgrade my lights in...

Relocating corals from one tank to another

Sue, Keep your corals in the water, rock without coral will be fine out of the water while you decide what to do. Since you are not sure what corals you have, keep all in the water. Some, like zoas can be out for up to 20 min, and some can't be exposed to air for more than one min. Keep flow...

    Fish die, other stuff doesn't.

find it hard to believe the tank is still cycling. I started the tank three months ago and did daily water checks and charted and tracked them all. I watched the ammonia rise and peak and I watched it come back down again. I watched as the ammonia turned to zero and the nitrites would go up...

    Fish die, other stuff doesn't.

Possible, though unlikely Sue, Again, if your rock didn't finish "curing" before adding fish, then maybe... There are many harmful gasses that are.. let out... by the rock itself if it is not "cured" or "mature" as well as the gasses that are released from the fish and inverts, These gasses may...

    Fish die, other stuff doesn't.

My guess would be that your tank is still cycling then, Was the LR "cured" LR when you purchased it? Even if it was you would have had a cycle, though a much shorter one. Your rock doesn't sound like it is processing your trites and trates quite effectively yet which is why I ask. When I set...

    Fish die, other stuff doesn't.

I've got a carbon/pad filter that came with the system as well as a biowheel set up, and I have about 14 pounds of live rock in there and an inch or so of live sand Silly question, But have you replaced the filter pad that came with the system? I am sure you have, though the way it reads, maybe not?

    Problems with an Eclipse 12?

Your O2 levels should be fine as your 12 has the bio wheel, breaking the water surface and constantly introducing O2 into your system, this is not the purpose of the wheel, but it accomplishes this task as well. Are you using test strips, they may be inaccurate...

    Problems with an Eclipse 12?

    Fish die, other stuff doesn't.

Hey there Sue, Sorry to hear about your troubles with the 12. The first thing you should do is definately remove the rock you collected, who knows what is inbedded in it. My Eclipse 12 took a little while to balance out, I think largely due to the bio wheel, it takes some time for them to become...

    12g Nano

I don't really see how you would turn the "suspended" filter tray into a fuge, getting rid of the wheel would do nothing for that, and there is too much flow in the filter tray to add macro and have it stay there, unless you added some sort of screen to keep it from getting washed down into your...

    12g Nano

How much LR do you have? I have had my Eclipse 12 for a year now and never changed out the filter. I have 15 lbs lr and 10lbs ls. My biowhell does fine, I have never removed it. Why would you remove them? I would say stay with the system that is in there, IMO it is fine, mine is. I did add a...

    Eclipse 12 or Biocube 12?

I have an Eclipse 12, it has been up for a year now. I really have found it to be a good little system after retro-fitting t5's into the hood and adding a power head to it for better flow. Everything does well in there and I have had no issues since early in its set up. I am not recomending one...

cool, sounds like you have it planned out! I upgraded to a Nova etxreme t5 HO 36 watt 50/50, drilled my hood a little, and now have a great lighting system that will support many corals for around 70 bucks. Not too bad, and an easy job if you ever consider it.

Looking good so far!! I would try to keep as much of your rock from your walls as much as possible, only because your tank is acrylic, if anything falls it will leave a nice scratch in the wall!! Also it will be much easier to clean your tanks walls. The branches are great, and you will have...

    Not Going Well

Hey there Sue, Sorry to hear that you are having such a difficult time with your setup. I have the same system, if you have the 12 , and I have found some good things as well as bad things with the unit. The lighting in mine was insufficient so I upgraded and retrofitted a stronger unit into...

What is this on my rock!

Agreed on the q tip sponge, I have them in my tank, harmless filter feeders. No idea on the second pic though.

    Red Slime

I removed mine by hand, it was on my sand bed, and creeping onto my walls. created better flow in the area, and did 25% h2o changes every 3 days for 2 weeks while still manually removing it. It is gone now, although what a process!!! Good Luck!!!

    painting an acrylic??

geesh, now I feel stupid, I can't believe I didn't think of that... so much easier and safer overall..... Thank you!!!

    painting an acrylic??

Hey everyone, I am thinking of paintint the back of my acrylic tank black. I was given the idea, and agree that it would look nicer. Concerned the the paint may leach toxins into the tank as it is already set up. Any knowledge on this? Would I find the paint at my lfs or simply the home depot...

    Newbie 12 gal

Thanks rebel, The Scaping took a little work, I broke down one of my LR to create a shelf system from the original towers of rock I had, broke it into roughly 10 pieces. It suits the tank much better now, and yes, I replaced the stock 13 watt 50/50 with a Nova Extreme T5HO 36 Watt to sustain...
