Purple lobster - anyone have one??

I think I'm the only one who's gotten lucky with one of these. I guess it helps though with a small 40B. My lobster's taken a liking to a cave right next to one of the side glasses. I always see him and can even direct feed shrimp, etc. to him. The only extended amount of time when I didn't...

    OT: Attn Wrassecal

Please disregard above post. It was made in jest after foolishly believing, once again, the hype machine here in Austin.

    Bad Luck

I took a frogspawn from the LFS in worse shape than that. It only had two heads remaining, and there were only two or three "bumps" sticking out from each head. That was about 7 or 8 months ago. One head died completely within three days but the othe one is currently splitting in my tank...

best deal ever in my life

My guess is that all those fish tanks in lawyers and doctors offices are not on the first floor of their office building. Those are usually pretty large. Just my two cents.

    Ot: Bad Neighbors

As far as getting mad at them for being out that late, it is a Friday. Any weekday, and I see your point, but getting mad at people for being out at 11 or 12 on Friday is somewhat ridiculous to me. On the other hand, smoking joints in your chairs where your kids play is uncalled for. You...

    How fast does aptasia multiply?

I had one in my tank for about two months without it reproducing at all. I thought, "What's the big deal? It's not doing anything." I now have close to 100 Aptasia in my tank. Don't make the same mistake I did. Kill it off as fast as you can.

    Parasite on Copperband?

My copperband has developed some sort of parasite on his tail. I don't have a pic so I'll describe. It started off small and white, and has now grown into a pencil tip sized "fuzz ball." At first I thought it might be ick, but it hasn't spread on the fish, it's just in that one spot. The best...

    Lionfish shedding

When I had a dwarf, he shed about once every two weeks. You'll only be able to notice if you're there when it happens. He'll shake like a dog, and his cuticle will come off. It will float away and dissolve or get eaten in the water within about five minutes though.

Anyone have a purple or blue lobster??

I have a purple lobster. He did do a little digging, but nothing very destructive, but I guess that all depends on where he decides to dig. The main problem I have heard with these guys is that you never see them. Luckily, my lobster decided to make his home a place that I could see, and he...

    Clam Suggestions

That's not entirely true. Look up some of Brooklyn Johnny's posts. He has a nano-setup with I think two clams in there. His might be the exception, I'm not sure, but it is possible with success.

Reef tanks from long, long ago...

Maybe I'm wrong, but for some reason I thought that MHs are a rather recent thing in aquariums. If this is the case, did people not keep clams or SPS back in the day? Or did they keep them but very unsuccesfully? Just wondering, because there's lots of new stuff coming out that people keep...

    Is this true?

Excessive physical contact in one spot might cause a brain to recede. As far as touching it once killing it - that's definitely not true. There' d be no brains left in the ocean. I know of people's clowns hosting in brains. Sometimes if the brain starts to get agitated, it will recede...

    need help id'ing something

Looks like a majano anemone. They're like aptasia in that they can reproduce rapidly, badly sting your other corals, and take over your tank. One or two look pretty cool in my opinion, but if it starts reproducing, I'd take it out.

Academy of Sciences Aquarium - San Fran

It's amazing what you learn here on this message board. I was visiting a friend in San Francisco this past weekend, and I went to the aquarium at the Academy of Sciences (not the one on the Bay). Anyways, I saw so many things in their aquariums that I've learned NOT to do: 1. They had multiple...

You know you have an aptasia problem when...

It's been bad for about two months now, and I desperately want to do something about it. But I'm moving next week, and I didn't want to get any livestock that could die in the move (last time I switched tanks because of a leaky tank I lost 5/8 fish, don't want to go through that again)...
