I just started following his thread but meowzer I thought that it was bad to have sand in a QT because it can continue the life cycle of a parasite. I know that there are much more advanced people commenting on this thread so correct me if i am wrong but that had always been my understanding. I realize that you are dealing with ich now but will you also keep the sand in for future QTing.

Sorry I guess I did not understand that the phrase anything meant only ick. BTW are we even sure the culprit in Lois tank is in fact ick
This is a game of odds, when you can't prove anything. The odds are, if it looked like Ich, it's Ich. I don't think she has the means to get it evaluated professionally.

That is incorrect. Sand has no part in the reproductive cycle of Ich. It can land on any surface.

LOL...the fish were flushed anyway.....so I have nothing to check anymore
Well, that is true that we dont know for a fact what happened to the tank and we may never know. The good thing that has come out of this Lois is that you will now have a QT set up to put any new additions for the tanks into so that you can observe them to see if they are sick with something or not. IT was a hard lesson to learn but I think that you and others are going to learn a lot from this.

You have your treatment plan, right? I wouldn't want to muddy up your tread if you were still trying to figure out the best plan for you.

I know that but it does have a part in a parasite's reproductive cycle, which is why I am wondering if the sand will stay it the QT for future use. It may not be an issue now but I and curious if it may with another fish that may come in with a parasite.

Once I get the goby in the qt....I will do hypo....I will be leaving the DT empty of fish till November....that should be 8 or 9 weeks....during this time the goby will have completed hypo, and should be in the QT with a normal salinity level..waiting to go home
I HOPE

OH YEAH....I'm not gonna add the powerhead until tomorrow.....I Don't see the need for it tonight, and I need this sand dust (crud) to settle

Still a little cloudy, BUT I will show you what I have,......
the whole pic....(probably gonna get a better background since this qt will be PERMANENT)

The cave in the Sand Box

The log for "fish" to hide in....and the small piece of live rock I took from the 225G refugium

I do have another of these log decorations (the smaller size) and a couple of pieces of PVC if needed....BUT I only have the goby...LOL...SO I don't think I need all that
SOOOOO...my only concern is the icky stuff that came from the sand :( SHOULD I BE? (concerned that is)

With the sand being stirred up the way it has been I would add some PRIME in the tank to calm down all that got stirred up. It really depends on when you plan on getting your patients into the HT, (soon I would guess) if so, I personally would acclimate slowly, time not the option for a working woman such as yourself I know, but you don't want to shock them to quickly in there current condution. IMO.
Also,.... you have had been swept around pretty much on this thread, once again I'm sorry for your tank delima, but Meowzer, I feel that you already know the answers to most of these questions, you are a very saavy aquarist with much education and experience, although it is different when it happens to you. I admire you very much because you put yourself on display sort of speak and opened your self up. Nice to see not only from an experienced hobbyst but from a moderator. I know that your going to take care of your patients nicely. Now, for you...... go and get a Margarita or 5 and some nachos. You have deserved it.

i meant this to sound nice, if it doesn't I apologize. Lol....
Where is Spanko during all of this? I would really like to hear is thoughts on this topic.

LOl....Thanks Kiefer....just was hoping that someone else would learn from my "mistakes"
I am going to move the goby (only have 1 fish) on Friday.....I am off and my husband does not go into work till the afternoon....so we are going to take the 54G apart......remove the goby....then re-aquascape the 54G
THEN the hypo begins....and the 54G remains EMPTY.....hopefully the corals will still thrive during this time

I'm sure everything will work out. When I had my 56 empty, other than corals, I still fed them once a week and kept up with the W/C's. Do you plan on getting some cleaner shrimp for some movement in your DT?
maybe they can save this thread for future references?

I was thinking of a few peppermint shrimp since I saw a few aptasia.....I do have a brittle star, a couple of conch, snails and hermits that will remain in the 54G

Sounds like you have a plan - just keep an eye on the 225. Since ich was likely present in your 54 for a couple weeks before it "took over" just keep a close eye on the 225. Like stated earlier - i;ve 2 dry 75g tanks & stands - 1 std. 75e and 1 "cube" dutch aquaruim systems that if needed, I can drive 1/2 way to deliver to yall to borrow. I've also got all the filters/heaters/powerheads/strip lights/etc to get either running as a qtine system if something bad shows up - just add water. No sense having to spend hundreds more buying a large tank& equip just to save your fishes in the 225. I keep them empty in case something breaks out in my big dt - so don't hesitate to pm if needed - paris tx is only an hour away
