Sorry to hear of your situtation. I live in Illinois, too. As we both are aware, there are plenty of mines working and abandoned here. I was looking for the abandoned underground mine near Streator, IL 61364, however, I only found surface mines. What is the name of the mine?

http://www.isgs.uiuc.edu/maps-data-pub/coal-maps/topo-mines/streator-south.pdf Everything I have seen shows this mine is from 1880-1883 it was called the Vermillion Mine Co #3 mine the Largest Mine in Streator and causes about 60% of the collaspes in town. Why does it cause that problem my area was the only area still Providing the WATER that was keeping the mines full of water. The worst part is all of us in South Streator said the Mines where going to collaspe in the future with the water being shut off to them. Well we are now facing that. That website is a PDF listing all the Mines that are Under this town My house is right in between the 2 Conrail lines listed on the South end of town.

Sucks. I remember some years ago a guy had an abandoned oil well gusher in his livingroom. He couldn't even pump the oil because the zoning had changed LOL!!! I know there are some areas in Wyoming they haven't allowed building on in years because there are so many mine shafts.

When he heard there was not damage to the house....? Why would you call the ins. co. if not to claim damages?

Beth in IL there are 2 Types of Mine Subsistance one WITH Structure Damage and One WITHOUT. My Insurance Agent Coded this WITHOUT Damage and when I found out I Reamed HER a NEW rear end to both State Farm and the Professional Reg Board here in IL they Both are NOT happy with her. She Might lose her IL Insurance License over this one. Then when the Adj Found out the House was being Damaged he was like how much and Where and when I told him everywhere and how fast he almost Fainted. So I know HE is going to be filing another Complaint against her. State Farm is NOT happy with her to begin with as she loves to Minimize the claims then when the Adj sees them and it comes in 4X what she thought they go OUCH. This may be the Biggest ouch ever from her. Told there was HOME Damage on the Inside does not tell the State Farm Adj there is ANY Sits on the Claim for ONE DAY also. The Payout the Farm is looking at from the state is around 150K right now. That tell you anything. I have this house insured to the MAX for everything my late FIL was a beliver in Insurance and he got us the Best policy he could.
House IIRC is insured to 125K replacement cost 75K belonging replacement 2Mil in Liability that tell you anything. He did not Screw around. And since it was Mine This is NOT a Home Owners Claim Actually and I can transfer this Policy to wherever I move to.

Its pretty bold to pick up and move without a job lined up. Good luck with the insurance, and getting to TX.

Seems to me it would be cheaper for them to just buy out all the houses and turn the area into a park than to fill the mines with cement.

I get close to 2200 a month in SSDI so we would have Income. My Wife has asked and she would be Able to do a Transfer of her Job hey it is only Mc Donalds but it Still is a Job. Once down there she would find something anything Better. Called even up here CNA jobs can not be had. With No Mortage No Car Payment and only Normal Bills like Insurance and such we could Afford to live down there easily.

That would be a sweet deal for the home owners, but even if they made it a park, wouldn't the mine still have to be filled in?....sink holes are dangerous and unpredictable, a person could take a step and the ground could give out making a sudden drop into the mine. Metra built a rail yard over an area that was not safe for houses (so they got the land cheap) sink holes would just open up and once right under an engine...the rail was the only thing holding it up...my boss very bravely climbed into the cab and moved the engine real slow until it was over solid ground. We stayed worried a train would be swallowed up until they filled the area in with pea sized gravel by the truck loads. One guy was just walking along and his one leg dropped...he lost a shoe.I was told about it, I wasn't there that night.

Did you know your house was over a mine when you bought it? Seems like the developer of the neighborhood should have done something to prevent this before building houses.

Beth if you Live in this town you are REQUIRED as a Homeowner to have Mine Subsistance Insurance as in the 1880-1920's this town was so Heavily Mined that if you did not work in the Glass Industry you can almost bet you were a MINER. At one time More People worked in the MINES than worked in the Glass Industry here in town.
Looking at 2 Areas in TX if we move Weatherford and Amarillo and Weatherford is at the Top of the List.

Good luck to you ironeagle, I'm happy that you will be getting out of that place.
After all the advertising that Jeff does for Texas, I'm surprised that I'm not there already lol.

Adj Just now Left He Measured the House to check for Lean and FAINTED. However we have to WAIT until the Geologist Declares that it is Mine Subsistance so the Insurance company can be able to either Repair the House or buy us out so we can get the HELL OUT of here.

Had the State Adj here for the Mine Sub Ins Fund. Sucker Fainted when he SAW the amount of Damage that was going on INSIDE the house. He then found the Tension Fault Line that Runs UNDER the house from my Front Yard to my Back Yard and normally the HOLE that results is in the MIDDLE of that collaspe. So basically where the Mine is going to Break is going to be RIGHT in the Middle of my Kitchen and Pantry. So basically I am sitting on a TIME BOMB and the Timer is going and there is no clue when the HELL it is going to go OFF. He also told me that normally the timeline on one of these is 2 weeks before the Sinkhole Shows up.

Have to Meowser called NO MONEY to stay anyplace else. Also if I leave here I will not have any Damage Covered by the Insurance company so I am stuck in the Ultimate Catch 22 until the Freaking thing Fails. Worse thing is that it is Raining and that is the Worse thing that could happen in a Mine Issue as it make the Things Speed UP and while I want this OVER I do not want to have my house sitting in MID AIR suddenly. So until Mother Nature decides if she wants the Ground my house is on BACK along with my HOUSE I am STUCK HERE.
As of 30 Mins ago Mother Nature decided that SHE WANTED to SHOW UP. Hole is coming up inbetween my house and my Neighbors Driveway right now it is 18 inches long and 20+ deep and deeper every Min that goes by. So DNR and a Whole CRAPOLA of Aphlabet agencies just got INVOLVED. Going to be FUN HERE for a Few Weeks. Gas Company coming by soon to replace the connect with a Flex one and a crapload of Other work. To save a house like mine is about 140K I can buy one for around 50K in this area. I bet they tear it down. They have to Dig out then jack up the entire house pour a New Foundation and redo all the Plumbing UNDER IT. going to be Way to expensive for the Insurance company to want to repair I bet. Will see what happens here soon.
