Well I am going to have to place an order in a day so I can get the proper filter pads for the sump, so I guess you are saying that the blue bio balls are no good?

Water level is good...and I have changed clothes about 5 times since this thread started...LOL
Maybe it is a male chauvinistic ego. I have tried to get my wife more involved and she just says "maybe later, I know what what I want to know right now"

On the subject tho, Why for the Bio Balls. From what I understand they will become a nitrate factory. Is this not a true statement?
I guess if you take care of any form of filtration the right way it will treat you and your inhabitants right.

Ok first let me say go with the blue ones you have, umm nitrate factory. Lets see I guess that means they make nitrates umm I think thats what allows us to mantain our tanks. And just how do they do that? Wait I know they are multi faceted media, which give you the best bang for your buck by supplying a large area on a small medium for colonization Ummm sounds good to me. Now if we incorporate good husbandry we cant lose. Pay the nitrifying bacteria prevailing wage (supplying ammonia) our factory is what we want.

You Want things that can support the colonization of nitrifying bacteria (bioballs)They need a place to grow on bioballs give them a large area to grow on while taking up a small space. And thank you very much it is a very good bottle of port. Take one of the bio balls and hold it in your hand (don’t even go there) now look at all the surface area you have for the bacteria to grow on that one ball.

OK...so just throw some in the side with the pump?
That depends on how good an aim you have. Buy one of the large filter media bags and put them in or you can just put then in without the bag. I would rather you work on the sand bed first. Can i say bed and work in the same sentance ????

You can put them in loose the bag makes it easier to remove and clean Also down the road that area gives you a place to put media bags to fight phosphate, nitrate and add carbon

OK, think I'll order a bag...I put them in there last week when I first got the sump, and had to pick them all out Saturday morning when we modded into the refugium....what a pain...I can't imagine doing that every week...too much time
