Ok first let me say go with the blue ones you have, umm nitrate factory. Lets see I guess that means they make nitrates umm I think thats what allows us to mantain our tanks. And just how do they do that? Wait I know they are multi faceted media, which give you the best bang for your buck by supplying a large area on a small medium for colonization Ummm sounds good to me. Now if we incorporate good husbandry we cant lose. Pay the nitrifying bacteria prevailing wage (supplying ammonia) our factory is what we want.
Like I said.....

You must not have caught the last part. Thanks.

My friend the nitrate factory rant was not directed at you, as obviously you understand the need for good husbandry. I feel that there is just to many new hobbyists that shy away from them thinking that somehow the bioballs themselves produce nitrates

Take out the rubble its a waste of space. Time to look into a sand Sifting crew to deep your sand bed aerated go with Cerith Snails. put a mark on your refug/sump at your water level so you know when to top off and how much to add
space for what? I thought it was good to have for pods??? I'll have to order a sand crew..snails etc next time I order livestock...I don't think I'll be going into Texas for a few weeks...at least 2 anyway
