LOL--I can tell you are stressed--bottle of TUMS setting on your desk!
LOL..I am a true worrier....however....I have been in pain from my feet, back and knees for many years, I have lived on Aspirin...it ruined my stomach. I have no tolerance for the stronger meds, they make very sick. So Tums and Pepcid are forever close at hand. Now that I'm retired I don't need to take so much aspirin to push through a work night, but the damage is done.
Well now the sump...LOL...a fixit lady I am not. I don't know if I should post my adventure here, or on the make me laugh thread.
It goes a bit like this...
First screw up..I put my 20g tall tank in first, then my DT on top...STUPID me did not put the baffles in...so guess who gets to sit in the floor to try and put them in...that's right...me, the one who can just almost get off the floor on my own. Not to mention my knees are shot and I can't stay on them more than a few minutes at a time
Mistake number two...I didn't test it for water leaks...I so hope it holds water....it is already under the stand, and it isn't coming out unless I use my hammer and then I will go with a canister filter and forget a sump.
I have baffles cut...the mess I made with silicone on my first sump project, was so horrible looking, and my hands are very weak, so squeezing the tube is hard for me. Saxman mentioned a way to seal the baffles using EPDM weather striping. Well I couldn't use the right size baffle because the striping squeezed too tight...so I have the baffles cut just a bit smaller.
TOO small now...the baffles are too loose to seal by a mere fraction. I get the grand idea to use the foam to seal the baffles in place...need I bother to explain what a mess I made? Well...it won't be coming out, and I do believe it is sealed now for sure.
I put only one baffle in. I read I needed at least one to keep the skimmer chamber water at a certain level. The foam went everywhere, I had to work fast because the knees were screaming at me...so I take my bare hand, no gloves and try and scoop the over spray...Now keep in mind, I can't get up...I use my arms to pull myself off the floor and now my hands are a sticky mess. Yeah, that was fun
For the refugium section...since my last idea was pretty messed up. I decided to try using silicone, and because the glass is too loose, and I didn't want to waste the piece. I decide to angle the glass and make a corner refugium, all I want it for is a safe haven for amphipods and copepods....well mistake number three... I get black tar looking silicone for fish tanks, not the clear, I squeeze the tar along the three edges and set it into place...
And wouldn't you know... it kept falling over....yes another beautiful Debbie mess, in tar black this time. I'm so glad it is under cabinet. My first messy sump now looks like a true masterpiece compared to this one. If I had the tank out in a comfortable possition it would have turned out much better, but on my knees...I had to work fast and get up off them. I try and reseal the one side...it's holding but it isn't a good seal. So I will have to get down there again and finish up....but not tonight.
So I'm not finished, I can't get on my knees anymore for the night, maybe for the rest of the week... no doubt I will need my cane to walk tomorrow.....
