@ Mr. Limpid: Thanks for the compliment on the rockwork! It's not as hard to do as it seems, but the columns are made of smallish rock that is foamed onto a PVC frame. I use bare PVC, cut and built to shape, then I "glue" the rock using expanding pond foam. It forms a strong bond, is light, but the rocks are easily ripped off if I really needed to remove one. I modified the technique called "live framing" and used the foam instead of lots of little PVC plugs. You can check the fist page, posts 5-11 for a more detailed description.
@Sip: The pleasure was all mine! I had a great time meeting you, and you are NOT a "lousy host," LOL!! Michelle and I had a wonderful time, and I'm completely in AWE of your tank! We should definitely hang out, and hell, maybe it's worth the drive to go to the reef club meetings down your way. Like I said....not a whole lot of aquarium action in the Boca/Deerfield area. You are welcome to my place anytime, come on by and we'll have some dinner.
To those who haven't seen Richard's tank....he has a truly stunning 72g bowfront. The vibrancy and life in that tank is really outstanding. Pictures can't do it justice...you just have to see it for yourself!
So I came back with 5 frags: A nice size Pocillopora frag, a red monti cap, a small superman monti, a purple monti cap (which of course fell to the back of the tank, I need to fish it out!) and a beautiful little birdsnest frag. They're all settled now, but the pics I managed to get...well, they suck. I need to try using a REAL camera, because the neon greens of the Poci and the Birdsnest don't show up at all.
Hey Sip, was it me or did the superman look a little bleached? You think I should keep that low until it colors up again?? These LEDs do tend to punch down pretty well. Right now I have it midway, but it's not facing completely up.
EDIT: Just fished the purple monti out. The downside of having such a large tank is pretty clear...it's a complete PIA to fish out anything that falls to the bottom rear. But I didn't want to risk waiting, even while I was writing this post.
