Good to hear Rick! Let me know how those frags fare in your tank.
Also, I didn't know your name was Richard lol.

Richard,
I plopped them in late last night, but I didn't try to place them or anything. So they're certainly too high up in the tank for right now...that's tonight's challenge I think.
I actually need to step back and decide what coral I really want, and where it needs to be placed. I planned out my fish list, I was meticulous with the way I wanted the rock to look.....now that I'm starting to fill in with coral I don't want my background arrangement to go to hell because of haphazard coral placement. I have a definite idea in my mind for how I want the tank to look, so I should probably put that down on paper and try to visualize what corals are going to go where.

sounds like a plan buddy. You let me know and I will try to find some for you.

Weekend report:
First, I'm still on the search for a Divided Wrasse, aka blue star leopard wrasse, aka African leopard wrasse.....aka my mystery fish. One LFS was SURE he was getting some in the order he picked up last night. Turned out it was a standard ornate leopard wrasse...not the same. I have a new fish store on the hunt, bringing my total up to three. First one who gets the fish in (assuming the fish is in good condition!) wins.
The new LFS store was pretty interesting. A hole in the wall, nothing I've even seen on google, staffed by two very nice ladies who knew their fish....which was a very nice surprise. And, as it turns out, knew the good Mexican dives around the area, but that's another story. They had decent prices on most of their stock, the sale tanks were well-used but clean, and the girls were just the right amount of chatty. All in all, a good place to file away and try to support. I picked up an interesting clove polyp rock while I was there; the heads have a neat multi-color hue that I'll try to photograph when they open. I also got a largish Poci frag from the first LFS for $15....there is bare skeleton on the base, but most of it shows new growth color so I decided to give it a shot.
Both corals got a basic iodine dip when I got home, and they're chilling out in the tank right now. I wound up doing a small 5g water change to siphon off some hair algae (
) that was growing on the sand, so it was win-win.....I got to use that water for the coral dips.
I'm happy to say that I think I'm breaking the ich life cycle in the PBT's QT tank. It's pretty easy to see the cycle if you watch....the fish will have 10 spots, a couple days later they fall off and she looks fine, a few more days and there are 20 spots, these fall off and she's clear, a few more days and she suddenly has 50 spots.....you get the idea. Especially in a small tank, this is a no-win situation unless you can break the cycle. The water is deep in hypo now, and she's only got a spot or two on her fins. I'm hoping that by sometime mid-week, she'll be completely spot-free and I can start the 40-day countdown. I bought a pH tester to keep an eye on her tank - I was getting tired of the silly drops, they all look the same color to me in the end. Had no idea you have to keep the tester probe from drying out....EVER....but hey, the things we do for our tanks.
The other two fish sharing a 12g QT tank are my midas blenny and my mccosker's wrasse. Both are doing well, but they don't swim a whole heck of a lot.....just during feedings. No ich spots on either fish at this point, and I'll be doing a small WC in their tank later today. I'm debating on dropping their tank to hypo levels, but I'm leaning more to the "if it ain't broke...." method of fishkeeping. If I don't see spots, I don't know if it's really necessary to hypo.
The final thing to report swings back to the Divided wrasse. I have her QT tank set up and ready to go, with a 2-inch soft sandbed and a new screen top that fits tightly....I just need a couple pieces of scrap plastic to cover the thin open strip in the back where the filter sits. I'm certain that the last one was so jumpy because she couldn't properly burrow in the sand, so this time there is a nice, soft bed for her to slither down into. I also tossed a large rock (that USED to be filled with GSP!) from the horse tank into this QT so there is something to forage off of when she gets here.
Photos later tonight hopefully if the corals relax and open up.

That sounds great on the tang and the new lfs Rick!! Do yourself a favor and get yourself a digital ph meter from ebay for like 10 bucks. So much more accurate then those drops.. Like you, I can't tell the darn colors. :/

Yes, I did. Got one off of Amazon, and calibrated it today. If anyone is interested, my display tank is 7.8, and my hypo QT is 8.1 All the macros are probably helping keep the pH from going crazy.

I wish I could photograph this. Under actinic LEDs, these clove polyps have a bright green center, and a vivid orange strip running along each arm of the polyp. Seriously pretty!

I think we can start the clock on the Tang today. I took a look at her, and there is a little scar-like tissue on her fins, but no actual white spots. She's active, healthy-looking, and goes after algae sheets and flakes with gusto. Tank needs a good 5-gallon WC, so I have to mix up some 1.008 water for her soon.....I notice the tank is getting a little green. Other than that I think she's going to pull through!
The other QT fish are doing well. I'm a little bummed that the Midas doesn't move around a lot....he's picked a spot in the QT that makes it very hard to see him, and just sits there most of the day. Only time I get a clear view of him is during feeding time. But no spots on either him or the wrasse, so if they continue like this I ought to be able to release them on November 17th.

Saw a Sunburst anthias for $40 at the LFS today. Thinking about it. Not sure if it's a great idea; I would have to add it at the same time with some other active swimmers to deflect any aggression from the other anthias already in the tank.

Copper is better imo. I used the mardel brand on my yellow tang and flame angel. Did daily water changes, it worked well.... I have never used hypo though......

Yup. I got her. She's very small, between 1 to 1.5 inches. Thinking about keeping her in a QT for some time while she gets a little growth on her. But she's eating frozen zooplankton and has been doing pretty well the past few days....
