Ok so maybe a dumb question... but how exactly does the mag hookup to the nautilus? Will I need any special fittings that I'll have to buy or what? Oh and one more thing.. should I run the skimmer during the cycling process? I think I read that I should since I may be using un-cured live rock...

would it do a pretty good job on a 75gallon? I was looking at the Euro-reef ES5-3.. but it may be a little out of my range right now. I'm gonna have to check my inside sstand height and see what I got to work with first... cordell

so what do you guys think of your nautilus TE's? And what pump do you use for it? Nautilus recommends mag700 or rio2100.. I'm thinking about getting this one (the nautilus, not the rio). I will have to measure to make sure it will fit under tank first.. Appreciate any opinions on it! :) Cordell

the way it usually goes is that after you get what you want at first, in your case shrooms and algae, then you want more and more. If I were you, I'd just go ahead and put together a VHO lighting system. If you can't afford the retros, buy the parts seperate (bulbs, endcaps, mounts, ballasts)...

I bought that Aqua Safe RO/DI system on ----.. 75GPD and I've heard it is good. And very reasonably priced ;) It should be in any day now.. no hurry though, still have to stain stand and canopy.

ok so how do I get the bacteria to start growing on the sand that was mentioned in the other thread? Should I just throw in some flakes? Or did you mean that I should get live sand and mix it all in.. then put it in the tubs?

ordered ro/di today.. will start with it. I guess it depends on how good your tap water is, some have good, some don't. I'll just guess that mine is horrible and skip any risk.

so should I mix my saltwater first and let it mix for a day, then add the sand to that? in the two tubs, that is. Should I do water changes, check for ammonia often?

So there is no such thing as TOO small grain size?

well I was wondering about that.. The only place I can get sand is at Lowe's actually, Home Depot doesn't have any (seasonal?), but I was worried that it might have something harmful in it. I dunno if it is silicate-based or not, I don't believe it said.

oh and what is a good grain size for sand? Should all of the sand have ruffly the same size grain? a COmpany for PETs here sells a few different kinda of aragonite in 20lb bags.. pretty pricey though. I'm looking at some sugar sized aragamax 0.2 - 1.2mm and Fiji Pink 1-2 mm diameter grain size...

well thanks for pointing me in some good directions.. swf.com should sell some kind of aragonite sand I think! I'll check those links.. and just for swf.com, I still plan on buying a good bunch of sand from ya, so don't fuss

I just can't figure out what to do about my substrate.. I'm going for a DSB on my 75g.. but I sure can't find any southdown anywhere down here in louisiana. I can't afford ALL livesand, I was thinking 50lb from swf.com? But I don't know what I should use for the other 100lb that I need...
