Also.. would $2.79/lb shipped next day air be a good price for Caribbean Uncured Live Rock?

    cycling with uncured rock

So it would probably be a good idea to go ahead and put any base rock in with the uncured live rock at the same time, right? Also.. where is a good place to get base rock? I was thinking about doing 50/50 base rock/live rock. My LFS charges like $2.99/lb for base rock! I wish SWF.COM sold it...

    cycling with uncured rock

yeah that's what I was thinking.. since I can get it alot cheaper, and I'm not adding it to an already setup tank, it would be ok and would kick start the cycle. I should probably expect alot of water changes huh?

    cycling with uncured rock

I'm wondering if it would be ok to cycle a new tank with uncured live rock? Would the ammonia get too high? I'm just wondering because it is cheaper and all... and since I'm on a budget..... but if not recommended, ok. thanks, cordell

    New Tank

I figure (well garf says anyways) I need about 175lb of sand for my 5" DSB in my 75gallon. Could I get mostly aragonite, like 100lbs, then do the rest with the live sand from swf.com?

New Lighting for a SW Fish only Tank

it's helpful to decide what kind of life you want in the tank first.. that makes it alot easier to decide what type of lighting, filtering, etc.. to get. The hardware is the trickiest part of it all to me right now.. but I'm just starting out too. Once ya get the hardware right and everything...

    New Tank

Wow sounds like the pet store had fun with you  ... The best thing to do before you do anything else with the tank is get a good book. Most people like The Conscientious Marine Aquarist by Fenner. This will clear up a whole bunch of your questions and so much more. It's hard to jump into...

    support swf

I imagine the deal with closing for the holidays is merely the fact that there is so much being shipped right now (gifts etc) that the chance of livestock getting to its destination on the exact day is lower. But hey what do I know.. :)

    ro/di set-up pic

one question on the ro/di: do most of them come with a fitting that will screw onto a sink faucet or a water hose? I live in an apt and I really can't plumb it in.. I'm not looking for auto-topoff now.. I'll just hook it up at night and let it work until the morning, that should be enough topoff...

    75gallon

As hard as it may be to do.. man just save your money and while you do, read everything you can, especially on this and other forums. I really wouldn't want to buy something that comes with all of the supplies and all.. ties you down to those supplies and you end up paying more when you decide...

    Culturing Base Rock

Since you want such a small amount, getting it from a LFS might be ok... sure you might pay more, but you can pick peices that you can really pack in your tank with the base rock and you don't have to worry about shipping charges and all of that headache... that is, if you have a LFS that sales...

    sump, now or later?

yeah I think I may just take it slow and wait to get water in it until I have all the equipment and am in a good situation that I can buy *good* rock and sand... I want to start it off right, after all... I'm still trying to figure out how to rig it... especially since I'm not sure what tank...

    Which power heads to use?

so it's just a long pvc that stretches across the back with holes along it that spray the water into the tank? Is it above or just below the water?

    Which power heads to use?

Could you explain more on the spray bar? I don't think I've ever seen one .. no surprise:thinking: I have always disliked seeing so much equipment inside the tank.. I think it takes away from the natural looks and just looks tacky, but I have accepted it as it is needed mostly.
