    LFS and bubble algae

The Bubble Algae species that look like big black marbles are really not invasive. They typically grow as a single bubble and spread slowly making them an interesting feature and easy to remove when you want. I'm not saying this about Bubble Algae in general, quite the opposite. Just the...

    Filtration media

In my DSB systems the DSB was my primary filtration. Those tanks did tend to accumulate Gelbstof at an increased rate though. To remove that I would run GAC for a couple days every time the water failed the white paper test, every 2 or three months on average.

    Is this normal?

They often molt when stressed. Being in a shipping bag certainly counts as being stressed. That part is very normal. The bowl method sounds OK. How did you keep them warm during acclimation? You mentioned you acclimated for an hour but only described the first 30 minutes. What was the...

That certainly looks like a picture of a dead shrimp. What was your acclimation process for the shrimp?

    Deep sand bed

I've run 3 reefs using DSBs and maintained a couple dozen. I have some notes: A healthy DSBs will remove Nitrate. A healthy DSB will not remove Phosphate, unlike an algae scrubber that will remove both. Disturbing a DSB should be avoided. An unhealthy DSB (one that does not have sufficient...

    Filter media for extra tank

The best way to preserve the biologic filtration is to set it up on your display tank. The plastic container will be a disaster...

    Tap water in marine aquarium

Actually they will but with just a couple/few fills with tap water to test for leaks the amount adsorbed is so low that's it's unlikely to leach back out. It's the steady weekly addition of tap water over months/years that will cause problems.

    Nitrate post cycling

Algae consumes Nitrate, bacteria deep in live rock consumes Nitrate. You have no delicate corals so don't worry about it being above 10ppm. Once the algae, such as Coralline, begins to grow nitrate will begin to fall. Remind me, do you have a sump? Were you planning an algae refugium?

    Stocking a 105 gallon tank

The general rule of thumb for a new hobbyist is one inch of fish (adult size of the fish) for each five gallons of tank. So around 20 inches of fish is a good capacity. This is just general though, thins like very active fish (Tangs) and sedentary fish (Clown Goby) and move that needle higher...
