Researching for a future 72 gallon build. Need advice.

I would use the sump you have as only a sump. There would be too much temptation to contaminate your display equipment with the QT sharing quarters with the sump. A true QT is cheap and easy to set up, so make it a separate system entirely. It doesn't look like the sump you have has separate...

Ammonia 6 weeks into cycle HELP PLEASE!

How did you cycle the tank, and what is in there now? I have had tanks that took 6 weeks to cycle, especially in the days before properly cured live rock was available. It would also be worthwhile to run the ammonium assay on some freshly made water to see if that pale color really indicates...

New Tank would love some feedback.

Before you do anything else you have to get a cover on that tank. With two triggers in there you are going to see a lot of aggression and jumping/carpet surfing. Go to Home Depot and get some egg crate in the lighting department, and cut it to fit the tank top. This will keep the fish in, the...

What to run (or not run) during the cycle

One of the great things about this site is that, while there are varying opinions on how to do almost everything, those opinions generally come from successful aquariasts, so you won't go wrong following their advice. That said, I agree with Flower's recommendations, although I do it...

    Problem with PH

OK, that would be fine. I was concerned that you had a glass cover, which would prevent carbon dioxide from leaving, which definitely causes acidification of the water. Has anything died (or gone missing) in the tank. Decomposition can acidify the water too.

    Introduction

Welcome to the site! Please feel free to post any questions here - it is much cheaper to make your mistakes here rather than in your tank. Speaking of mistakes, I'm afraid that you have made one already. It is all too common to cycle a tank using damsels, but that is cruel to the damsels...

    Yellow Tang breathing heavy. Help!

I agree with silverado. Also, it looks like there is a reddish blush on the rear 1/4 of the fish, just anterior to the spine. If so, that could indicate a systemic bacterial infection, and I would isolate the fish to a hospital tank and start it on Maracyn II.

    what do porcupine puffers eat

My experience is that they eat pretty much anything. Did you see it eat in the store? Is it in quarantine? If not, what are its tankmates? Often an aggressive fish will intimidate newcomers and they then decline to feed out of stress. Another possibility is that it is just stressed, and will...

Your fish selection is not too bad. I would lose the damsel - all it will do is cause you problems with the other fish, and bite you when you put your hand in the tank. I would start with the dottyback, then add 3 chromis (they school, and are very interesting to watch as well as being...

    African Fireback Angelfish Help

The nitrates would have to be well above 100-200 to be toxic to fish, and your inverts would already be dead, so nitrates aren't your problem. When a fish dies so quickly after arrival it is never nutritional (although I don't think flakes are adequate for any of your fish). Look to aggression...

New Setup and how it is going

You can add a small clean-up crew with fish at this point. However, until you have some algae growth avoid herbivores - they'll starve.
