    temp.changes

Its the lights. Try afan in your canopy sucking air OUT of the hood. If that doesn't help you may have to break down and buy a chiller. I'm assuming you have MH lights, due to the 5 degree daily swing.

    big problem

A tank can't cycle without anything to keep the nitrogen cycle going. If you add live sand, and no other fauna, the live sand will be basic CC within a couple of weeks.

    UV Does Not Kill Ich/Ick

I posted the part about credible documentation because the last time I posted this (another site) I received hundreds of emails stating I was wrong, but noone could provide info agreeing with them. Back to your question... I have attended multiple water quality seminars, college classes, as well...

copper for ich with live rock

I have to agree that hypo is probably your best bet with live rock. My (late) friend invented and marketed Organicure, and he always said don't use copper OR formalin with invertebrates. Copper is a poisonous heavy metal Formalin is dilute embalming fluid (formaldyhyde) I don't feel FW dips are...

    UV Does Not Kill Ich/Ick

I finally decided to start a thread on this topic, rather than responding to a post about it. It is past time for aquarists to know that Ultraviolet Irradiation is not effective against parasites. UV systems are great for algae, bacteria, and some fungi. The contact time to kill parasites is...

    Fight??

PUFFERBWARE- Keep the Kick Ich, but a UV does nothing to parasites.

    Fight??

Nicetry IS correct. C. irritans should be completely eradicated when proper quarantine of new fishes is done. The analogy I will give is fleas on a cat... The cat was given a thorough anti-flea dip/treatments, kept indoors, and no other dogs, cats, etc enter the home the cat will never get...

If you ever had a grievence about *****: From PETA

I would agree with the thread a little more if PETA wasn't promoting it. PETA is the most diehard special interest groups in the world. I am in favor of animal rights, but PETA has gone too far. I like guns, but don't think 12 year olds should have access to them. This is why I'm not an NRA...

    I hate my friends.

You messed up your decimals. His blood alcohol content would have to had been a .30---3.0 is absolutely impossible. Most humans are unconscious at a .30 and most humans will die at a .45 to .50

    Aggressive Tank with live rock?

Another thing, there is only one ecosystem known to mankind... The Planet Earth. There is no such thing as an ecosystem in a home. One must feed, add water, do water changes, add buffers, FILTRATION, provide light, etc. Try unplugging everything and stop feeding and see how long your...

    Aggressive Tank with live rock?

Any porous, calcerous rock will, in time, serve the same purpose (biologically) as live rock. It may not have the same aesthetic pleasure as "live" rock, but aesthetics are in the eye of the beholder anyway. I have spent a lot of time underwater, and believe me, dishwashers, cinder blocks, and...

How many fish in 20 gallon

A mature reef, with plenty of porous rock, good skimming, low bioload and no overfeeding will usually have a low, if not 0 nitrate level. Bostonpro- I gotta agree with you though, I laugh when someone says "I have a 55gal with an Aquaclear 300, and 7 triggers. My levels are all at 0". I used...

    Angles and Triggers?

No offense taken. I could see that working if one of the angels is alpha and the other submissive/beta, but 2 ADULT angels in a confined space will almost always fight. Adults are determined by coloration, not sexual maturity. I have not seen this problem when one of the angels is a Centropyge sp.

    Bio-Balls are they any good?

Bioballs are great for biological filtration. In a reef tank, many feel they are detrimental, because the eventually become "nitrate factories" IMO: fish tank-yes reef tank-no
