Lionfish eating guppies. How can I get him to stop-?

Also, watch your hands around him, one of my co workers at the warehouse got nailed and his hand looked like a balloon. Did you ever see a 6'2" 200# fireman cry like a baby?

    Emperor angel diet?

Yep, thats good stuff. If you go to your LFS point at the LR tank and say, how much for all that crap in the bottom, you can usually get tasty tidbits of many sponges for very little $ Find out when new stuff is coming in and go then.

    powerheads

Are you using UGF only on your FOWLR? I wouldn't suggest that. You'll get "dead spots" under the rock. Always use more than one type of filter, if something happens to 1 then you've only lost half instead of all. I would add some kind of outside filter. I'd also go with RFUGF. If you dont have...

    super high nitrates......

The LFS didn't do water changes on their DT, gee I wonder why they went out of business general lack of basic tank care perhaps? If nothing died yet, it probably wont. The nitrate either built up so slowly it didn't hurt as much, or you did stir it up and the crabs and stuff are tough guys...

New Tank, One new fish not eating

That is too many at once. Only get 1 a month. Tangs have one of the highest profit ratios of any swf. Even higher than the parasite medication they'll sell you when you come back the next day. I never put clown fish in a tank without an appropriate anemone, it just isn't a natural environment...

    Black Sand

I had black sand from Samoa in my reef tank and it looked wicked. Your fish will look more colorful with darker substate too. Color is a matter of taste. I will tell you that for best looking mixes make 1 your main color at 80%- 95%, and the other the remainder. 50/50 hardly every looks good.

Need Advice on a few things....

Algae is beneficial, its only a problem if you get real black looking stuff. I usually scraped my home tanks every 2 weeks or so, and only the parts where you'd look in at. It will grow less as more bacteria builds up in your filter system. Mag float scrapes are great, unless your tank is...

Old salt to new abreviation translations

BTW, heres a new one I will use TFD = tropical fish distributor. Thats the place where LFS get their stuff.

is RO water the same as.....

That looks like a good deal. If my math skills dont't fail me I'd say that compared to Walmart that will pay for itself in 4 days.

    LFS got me

@ FISHY7, from a standing start, a Mantis shrimp can hit the speed of a 22 caliber bullet within 6". Not a lot of fish gonna catch that. I will have to agree with the get the baby Coris idea. An adult doesn't need to be observed for his eating preferences, it's already well documented. An...

    ??? about ammonia & nitrate

You may have just stirred up something that was assorbing the nitrate. I'd say just do about 30% water change this time and check it as soon as the water rotates through your system once, then check it again in a couple of days to see if it's still rising.

    Would Febreeze cause ammonia spike?

Usually if something died that was big enough to cause a amonnia spike, you'd probably smell it. Avoid spraying anything in a room with a tank. If you must (guessing you own 2 large dogs) turn it off, especially any air pump, and cover it with a sheet of plastic and leave that over it for at...

Fish List for 90gal Reef - Critique Please!!!!!

Copperbands are really hard to adapt to aquarium life. Arguably the hardest of those readilly available. You have to get the youngest posible, richly colored one, that appears curious about his surroundings. Well at least in your reef tank he'll have all that yummy coral and sponge to eat...

FOWLR was really stumping me. DT and QT I should have gotten. Thanks, I'll just ask as they come up. I just found it funny that I Knew recognised fishes Latin names and understood the technical stuff but couldn't figure out what a LS/LR DT was

I'm no noob. Keepin fish for 40 years. Worked 7 years at a distributor covering 5 states. Was the marine selector for 4 and did hardgoods for 3. The highlight of my career was when the curator for the National Aquarium at Baltimore called up, told the owner they were planning a big Bahama exibit...

Im Tired Of My Fish Dieing: Help

Ah the old specific gravity versus salinity thing. With your tank so hot it was a bigger issue than usual. Since you've got part A under control, part B should be let the temp work its way down to around 78. I'm used to talking fish, not typin fish. Whats a BTA? Something tip anemone right? Is...

    Looking for advice

I used to work at a distributor. All Glass brand tanks had about a 10% return rate, Perfecto tanks less than 1%.

    Cycling Help

When nitrates are present, your tank is cycled. Thats pretty much the definition of cycling.

my trip to my lfs, many pics

WOW Hey, what kind of clownfish is that, the real dark maroon 1 with the yellow perc-like stripes? I worked as a marine selector at a big distributor for 7 years and I never saw one of those before!
